HELP NEEDED! PLEASE RT
My Husband has just been made redundant.
He was the Art director on Disney Dreamlight Valley who actually turned the project around from yet another mobile game, to the multiplatform, biggest success Gameloft has ever had with a game.
He was also supporting mine and our daughter's disabled asses. We now have no private insurance and have come up against brick walls in the Quebec public health system.
We basically need him employed ASAP in the Montreal. Please RT!
Reposting because I didn't take privacy off

@nprofile…w4ya oh!! I have a dehydrator and I didn't even think about that!
I've got so many in my garden this year (I let a few go to seed, and eat the greens in spring) I think I might do that. We have a lot of stews in winter, and I'd love more greens during that time.

Btw, these two plants are edible like spinach. They're often both called Lambs Quarters or Goosefoot, they get mixed up all the time, but they are 2 different plants. One grows more like an amaranth, and the other like a quinoa. Iirc, the broad-leaved one is more like an amaranth, and the narrow leafed one is more like a quinoa, I tried saving the seeds, but they're not great to eat.
HOWEVER. When they are small like this in the spring, they are great for using as spinach. I like to saute them in a little butter and garlic, or add to other dishes. Wash well, check for bugs (leaf miners love them), be aware that as with excessive consumption of spinach; if you are prone to kidney stones, don't eat bowls and bowls of the stuff.

Parenting tip #239363
No judgement here, but; if you need to hide schoolbook-doodled boobs, and they've been gouged in too deep for an eraser to have a hope of removing them, turn them into eyes. 9 times out of 10, you can turn them into eyes. Then add more eyes until it looks biblically accurate.
Sigh.

Woken up by my 8 year old, hungry for chocolate eggs, and absolutely covered in red Sharpie tattoos...
Would love any tips to remove the permanent red Sharpie... We have rubbing alcohol, but every tip welcome.

@nprofile…zyt0 @nprofile…kyza Sorry, but no. That sounds very different.
The Bandhs in India do not involve clashes and violence in that same way. India and South Africa are not the same. Yes, there are people who will make sure the Bandh is recognised. But usually everyone stays home and has a day off, and the streets are completely quiet. It's closer to COVID lockdowns than anarchy.
I know this, I lived there for 6 years.
I saw government changes happen due to Bandhs.
You compare apples to oranges.

@nprofile…kyza Bandh (General Strikes) happen a lot in India. They can be city-level, state-level, or national, and if you are in an area where one is being held, and you are outdoors and look like you are commuting to work (or working), you will be stopped. Some people stand on the bridges covering highways and throw rocks at cars if it looks like someone is breaking the bandh. Sometimes you only get a few days warning.
It remains the only country I have ever lived in, that citizens regularly practise the right to strike. And it makes a difference!

@nprofile…d2v0 @nprofile…6r9q I finally made a triangle bag for my bamboo mini cargo bike. I am just waiting for some pink shock cord to arrive to put the bag on my bike.
I also made a gigantic roll top bag to sit on the front platform, but I haven't got a good photo of that yet.
I also put reflective tape on the spokes of my bike this week, so that I am more visible in the dark.
I am very excited for the spring, when I can take this bike out again!

Everyone warns you about the baby Adverts when you get to a certain age.
Nobody warns you about the combination baby+perineum exerciser+perimenopause Adverts.
It's like speed running the whole Maiden-Mother-Crone experience but now with added capitalism.

We finished it! :D
It's a BambooCycles Coatepec - it is also the smoothest ride I have ever had, and my knees didn't hurt while riding it. I can lift it up with one hand! I'll post more photos tomorrow, it's too dark right now for photos.

(Going to share this because I feel comfortable TP's face is unrecognisable enough, but-)
TINY PERSON CAN RIDE A BIKE WITHOUT STABILISERS!
Hubs took her to the local park while I was fixing up the trail-a-bike. Her training wheels broke last week, and this was the first attempt at riding without them. Not 5 minutes after they set off, I get this video. Apparently she got it on the first try! We think riding on the back of my longtail cargo bike helped her get the feeling of balancing on a bike, so it came rather naturally once hubs 'launched her across the playground'.
(Tiny person is AuDHD and has dyspraxia. A lot of people seem to think that means she would never ride a bike. Of course they were wrong)
Sharing this because after a certain person with brain worms said some stupid shit in the news last week about Autistic people.

I keep seeing memes about Millenials 'adopting grandma hobbies' like gardening, sewing, and knitting, and does it really surprise anyone when our entire adult lives (and some of our childhoods) has been one neverending recession that seems to get worse every few years when economists will say we're 'entering another recession'?
When all your life you've never really had economic stability, and your entire generation gets blamed for preferring avocado toast over housing, you tend to take up the kind of 'hobbies' that help with that life long food insecurity anxiety, or the anxiety about not being able to afford new clothes.
I don't think we have hobbies, I think we have anxiety coping methods.

Just a reminder, if you are in Quebec, there is a Hydro Quebec call scan going round.
I just got a call from 'Hydro Quebec', but I did not pick it up, because it's not my phone number on the bill :) they do not have my number at all, and I double checked on the house account once they rang off.

I've been working on a huge hooded scarf made from heavy canvas with a flannel lining (going to waterproof it) so I can wear it over my bike helmet.
Imagine my joy when I realised it looks like a witches hat when I wear it with my bike helmet.

Oh shit, some parts of the UK have had freezing rain.
That's normal, and still scary when it happens in Canada; but it's something that pretty much never happens in the UK, so there's no infrastructure, and nobody is going to have the tyres or crampons to deal with it.
Best thing to do is not go outside and wait for it to melt. If you have salt/grit or de-icer to deal with it, use that around your home, but honestly? Don't go out. It's not worth it. You're going to get hurt and everything is going to be iced shut anyway, so just leave it. Even here in Quebec, schools are often cancelled if we're due freezing rain, because it's not safe out.
I usually keep a huge bag of grit near the door for days like this, but even that isn't common in the UK.
Anyway. Take freezing rain seriously please. Especially if you look outside and it looks like an ice rink - it likely is.

Got out for a drink with some friends in class. Got onto the subject of what I used to do for work.
"You worked on 3 golf games in a row!? How did you cope?"
"Dicks. I hid dicks everywhere. In every image, there is a dick. Sometimes there are more."
"I thought that was just a guy thing? To hide dicks in art?"
"Yeah, why do you think I did it? No one suspects the girl."

I keep freaking myself out that there's a Victorian lady in the corner of my vision, and no... It's just the coat stand...

Yesterday, Tiny Person was allowed to use a computer at school to type, as her teacher can only read her writing when she does homework at home (dyspraxia. It's not for lack of trying 🙃 lots of drawing and writing happens at home). She loved it! She's been doing a bit at home, as she's only allowed to play Roblox on my computer, and not on a device.
Anyway I read something this morning about how GenZ and Gen Alpha don't read, can't type, etc, and now I'm just laughing because apparently my kid is going to be accidentally computer literate compared to kiddos peers, purely out of one teacher's exasperation.
Add to that the reason she can read so well, is because I have subtitles on the TV all the time.
Being a little bit shit is paying off! 😆
*I do also read with her, and dad plays Roblox with her sometimes, we're not entirely shit.

Me: fridge is broken
Hubs: my beer was still cold last night though
Me: *picks up fridge butter and puts finger entirely through it* fridge is broken.
Uhhh... we have a couple of expensive months coming up (first trip to the UK in 5 years to see family). If you were thinking of buying some pixel game assets for you or a friend, now would be a lovely time for that :meowtears: https://teaceratops.itch.io

In order to get tiny person to do her homework, the teacher and I encourage her to write a silly sentence using the week’s spelling words, and to draw a picture. It works pretty well, and I’m glad TP’s teacher has a sense of humour.
Anyway, this week she drew farting clams.
We’re going to get into trouble for this, aren’t we?

Hey #Montreal #MTL folks, there's a person on Reddit looking for an A/C repair person desperately. His wife has #CysticFibrosis and a current infection, and the heat and humidity is very dangerous for folks with #CF. If you have any info that could help, their post is here

@npub1znz…8l64 oh absolutely; I am extremely tired, and it's been warm and humid here today (just not on the same levels you are having to deal with), and my brain is it's own sabotaging autocorrect lately :D
