The thing I miss most about regular old Mastodon, is filters. I can't seem to figure out how to do that on GoToSocial

The biggest problem I have with the #Linux community at large is that when someone comes out and says "hey look at what I did, I accomplished something good!", there are those who have to say "yeah, but you still did it wrong".

I've begun the hunt for a new PC. Mine hasn't been working great, and I've narrowed it down to some crappy memory or the CPU. It's 5 years old, and I'm not sure I want to put any money into it.
I had always planned on going to System76 when I needed a new rig, but goodness are they pricey.

So, I read that Spaceballs 2 is going to be coming out. Then had to look up how old Mel Brooks is.
98
He's 98 years old.
I love that guy, but the streaming services should let the poor guy rest.

#2yearlinuxchallenge - 30 days left.
#openSUSE #Linux

So if someone asked me what's going to happen on July 8th when my #2yearlinuxchallenge is over, here's where I stand:
50% at sticking on #openSUSE - I love this distro, I really do. It has flaws, but everything does. With zypper getting better, this is a real option
20% at switching to #Gentoo - The most difficult challenge.
15% at switching to #Debian - This would just be me saying eff it, I'm going to use Debian the rest of my life.
10% at switching to #Bluefin - Really liked this when I used it.
5% at switching to NixOS. Despite my severe dislike of the community (and theirs of me), the damn thing still intrigues me.
This changes damn near daily based on what's pissing me off about openSUSE, so who knows really where I'll land when the challenge is over.

YouTube has changed the "join" button to "Subscribe+". I hate this. I keep thinking I need to subscribe to channels I know I've already subscribed to.
Shady shit that makes the creators look like the bad guys.

There's a good chance that the #fosstodon drama ends up being a net good thing for the instance. It's sad that Mike and Kev had to suffer for it and step away but I think in the long run it will work out for the best.
Fosstodon needed to get smaller. It obviously got too big. Now lots of people have left for other instances. If the new admins slow growth it'll be better.
It's also good for more people to use smaller instances. It makes the federation stronger.
So while it sucks that it did happen, I think we can find a silver lining. I wish the new admins good luck. I loved my time on Fosstodon. I did end up leaving (when I thought it would shut down) but that worked out well for me too. A smaller instance has kind of rejuvenated my interest in the #fedi.
