Got #GushingOverMagicalGirls vol 1, still struggling to read even one manga a day.
...wait, she's how old? 💧 That's not what I thought from the cover but oh well, manga gonna manga.
I honestly bought it because the previews made it look more monsterfucker than magical girl.

I've got a great investment for you.
Profitable? No, it's 95% in the red.
Popular? Haha, no, everyone hates it so people who do use it have to hide that fact.
Scalable? No, every other company already has 10 competing products and if anything the total market is shrinking.
Sustainable? No, the more people use it, the more they hate it.
So how many shares can I put you down for?

Disappointed but not surprised to see AI datacenters reusing the crypto mining talking point that they'll "fill out the electric grid".
Because as we all know, the solution to too much power use is to...uh...use so much power it becomes untenable and you have to create more power supply...?
In related news, if you have trouble keeping money, I'll take all of your money so you don't have money problems anymore!

Voice commands, white balance, and dimming are cool features to have but I'm not buying "smart lights" again.
They have burned out or otherwise had issues way too often, almost incandescent bulb levels of needing replacement.
They seem to accidentally DoS attack your router if they call come on at once (power outage) too.
Smart switches might be okay but my house isn't wired for em. You don't want to depend on Google/Amazon/apple anyway.

@nprofile…hqk5 I have only seen them played by people who already know what they're doing, but I don't recall many complaints about adventure game logic from those playing.
I'd grab it myself buuut...I was already having trouble keeping up with my games then I bought two new JRPGs at once.

Shine adores this corner of the futon that only exists in bed mode. I think it must be the view of the door and maybe the window; he is a very nervous cat.

@nprofile…nj9h Any worth a damn? I was pretty turned off by it but I can't say I have much experience.
It was half just to mess around with, but my specific intention was testing out "talking" with some characters from my story to work on dialog. "Roleplay" seems to be one of the things these actually do well.
They still seem to get stuck in a rut remarkably fast, but I figured for one-off characters it might be helpful enough.

Soot lost Mr. Mouse, her previous favorite toy.
After a couple of weeks, she has selected this one, which I dub Ms. Cherry, to be her favorite toy.
I bought a half dozen of these because I knew she'd destroy/lose them. She only plays with her 'favorite', goodness knows how she decides. But once she does, she carries it around and demands I throw it.

Figured for purely personal and testing stuff I would try a local LLM to at least say I did it.
File size was bizarrely well hidden on the instructions page. None of the recommendations I searched up mentioned it. Turns out it is 1.03 terabytes.
Couldn't even finish the download, and thank goodness ISPs have mostly stopped treating you like a terrorist for downloading more than 50GB a day.
Yareyare. From Reddit threads, it sounds like people test out dozens of these. Who's got the space?

2026-06-01 14:38:00 UTC

I wish people understood that "exploit found in open-source project" is how open-source projects get MORE, not LESS secure.
You do not "make software without vulnerabilities." You fix them when they are found, just like other bugs. "Vulnerability found" does not mean "stop using permanently"
Critically, closed-source programs don't even need to be exploited for your information to be at risk. I'd rather my data be in plaintext on Mastodon than quantum-safe encrypted in Facebook's database.

One of my least favorite web "design" things is where the login only shows email and there is a whole-ass separate page to put in your password.
Seems designed specifically to piss off password manager users with no valid upside?
To be incredibly charitable, I can see someone saying it "reduces mental load" by only offering one input at time, but let's be real, that's stupid as hell, and you end up increasing mental load with two pages! AND two inputs.

@nprofile…hm63 Ah, hm, I think she could handle a much clumsier version of that. Design-wise she'll be twiggy, but she's meant to be fairly athletic, and she *is* anime.

@nprofile…hm63 I suppose I only need "Ouch" + fall over in pain. Shoulder dislocation is just what I hear about the most, and excessive upward kick kinda screws with the scene.
Regarding 4 and 5, she'd be wearing hearing protection by this point. I plan to have her start without it and have another character plop a set of earmuffs on her head. "Hearing protection!" "WHAT?!"

2026-05-29 18:15:29 UTC

- reply

@nprofile…hm63 Hm, for the purpose of the parody I *would* like her to get all 6 shots off. I could probably make it work with all but one or a few missing.
She is in full panic adrenaline mode by this point. She can be as useless as anything afterward since it's the end of the scene; just a quick quip and she passes out for a hospital trip.

2026-05-29 18:01:55 UTC

#Gun people, got an excessive accuracy question for my silly parody story:
My intent is for the main character, a 12 year old girl, to fire 6 rounds from a revolver, parodying the "I'll show you STARS!" scene from Resident Evil 3 and dislocate both her shoulders in the process.
The gun is currently a S&W M629C, any revolver included in the Resident Evil series would still fit my needs well. https://residentevil.fandom.com/wiki/Magnum
Can I make that seem feasible? Her gun skill is 0, and she is a twig.

Politics can see complicated, but there are a few universal truths that can make things a lot easier:
- The guys trying to ban/burn books are the bad guys. 100% of the time.
- The guys trying to restrict voting are the bad guys. 100% of the time.
If you're in America...well, that's really all you should need to vote in any general election. Study up for the primaries, of course.

The maddening thing about current Gender Discourse is that motherfuckers really will say "There's a male loneliness crisis" while listening to podcasters who tell you to treat all women as objects and all men as rivals.

@nprofile…30n5 It is not about them being "better", but how much better they could have been elsewhere.
SM64 on gamecube, Majora's Mask on Wii U.
SM64 is actually a visual downgrade and Majora's Mask has some minor texture resolution bumps.
Sony's "one remaster of TLOU per console" releases are squeezing more improvements than these.
Though making the iron boots a C item was very welcome. For the 1 whole dungeon that uses 'em.

One of the funniest/most frustrating things to me in all of Gaming will be nintendo's insistence on remaking N64 games on the worst possible hardware.

The OoT and Majora's Mask remakes are pretty solid but...god. I hope I never have to bust those hand-torture machines out again. By the end of the 3DS lifespan I straight-up hated portables.

- Take inventory of what you accomplish! In addition to To Dos, I have a section where I write what I learned or overcame this week
- No perfectionism! If you can only half-empty the dishwasher now, DO IT
- If you leave every room 1 item tidier every time you leave it, it will eventually be organized

Socially manipulate your cat by leaving a square-shaped area on an elevated surface. It is not just boxes, cats love sitting on squares, even flat books.
I fold up blankets and leave them where I want the cats to sit; it works surprisingly well to corral them.

One of the reasons I enjoy being on #Mastodon is I cannot recall even a single "main character of the day", not counting "John Mastodon", which was a delightful fuckup and not a person.
I do not require a daily person to hate.

One of my biggest #retrogaming issues is re-releases seldom include the manual. The actual, printed, full-color manual with art, maps, diagrams.
Players were expected to read the manual before playing from at least the NES era to PS2 era, and a lot of description/story is simply not in the game as a result. Looking up a strategy guide is not the same.
Sony got this right with #PS1 games on #PSP but I haven't ever seen it done again.

#InvaderZim is a great show; I'm sad I missed it when it came out. We never had cable TV.
It is aimed a lot younger than I thought, but the art style is still great. And the humor is very dark yet absurd, which is nice. I would not have been normal about this show had it come out at the right time.

Gamedevs, I am BEGGING you to actually test your game with a real controller.
Put down the keyboard before the game even starts and use only the keyboard, and see if you can play for an hour without going completely insane.
Even just see if your main menu even works. The game I'm playing doesn't. It's on steam with controller support listed.

One of the best things THC has over alcohol is ease of dosing. Even with sort of poorly labeled online THC gummies, it's straightforward to dose. With alcohol, I feel I'm always either barely tipsy or too drunk. (Finished a bottle last night, and yeah, drunk, oops.)
At least when I get drunk, I just yell about Star Trek.

I love Matt Groening's stuff, but the political both-sidesy stuff in Simpsons and Futurama can be maddening to see.
For decades I was told politics was "turd vs giant douche".
The politics I got was "Free public transit" vs "shut down the government to protect child molesters".
...and the child molesters won. Again.

Finished #TheExpanse, maybe I watched too much too quick but the last couple seasons didn't hit me as hard. Ended very suddenly, though apparently in the books there's a huge time gap and it makes sense to end there ig

Fun fact: I first learned about neopronouns from a #Taur site
Be very careful if you notice anti-furry takes from people, nobody's required to be a Furry, but furry-hate is very eagerly used as the most socially-acceptable vehicle for a very generic anti-LGBT bigotry.
Furries are the most visible and safe-to-hate part of LGBT, or well, were before conservatives worldwide started just going straight for trans people.
Crush all bigotry. Period.
