Sometimes it is not as bad as it seems. From my volunteer-spot in town, view on the old cheese-market. The old center is not large, all walking-routes cross there. The city is very diverse, Seeing indeed a lot of smartphones . But specially the young ones still communicate: Showing each other what is on the screen, talking, laughing about it, etc. There is interaction.

Never mentioned in Dutch history-lessons , never heard about her in the UK as well, wherever we were.
In fact, the biggest pirate of all , beating all the well- known names sailing from colonial Europe .

It is in the link below, not sure of you can watch it.
Most of conversation is Korean.
The first episode yesterday is visiting The Mothers of Gwangju Uprising -
Still active in memorial activities, to keep information about that open, Highlighting the fact that the females, old and young, played a major role in the events last year, keeping South Korea away from dictator-ship.
That force is missing in the West.

I saw Queen Seon Duk long as the Great Heroine in Korea's history.
Watched the kdrama 6x during the years. Like it still as drama, have it ready on disk to watch if needed.
The drama is from 2007, it mirrors exact what happened in the West and World after that. Foresight ? Korea's past so fresh still in people 's memories ? A Korean person here on M explained last year how accurate Queen Seon Duk drama is. Learning there are more sides to the story.

The Sampoon Disaster 1995.
One that comes to mind first . Kmovie " Traces of Love" . It handles the corruption, intimidation by higher-ups , leading to the Disaster. Only a thin veil covering the real events . There is more in Kdrama and Kmovie that lifts the veil about real events covered that way.
Cannot recall any Western production like that.

For me, besides the pleasure of enjoying a good Kdrama just for pleasure, it has made me far more aware of almost invisible hierarchy- lines running in the Western society where I live. If "Things that happened" are real is not so important. Like Amsterdam festivals, some pretty big. Needing a lot of volunteers to make it work. Unpaid, hoping to find a better-paid place in the networks. Allowing to be used, take orders from higher-ups much younger. All in a ¨let's have fun !'-vibe.

I did not grow up with Jazz. But, I worked on a buffet-car on the Amsterdam-Paris train in the complete '80's. Very busy in summer, very quiet in winter. Started to play that on the soundsystem in the car. We were not allowed to do that. Did it for 10 years in the quieter hours. People loved it.
Discovered The Marx Brothers always had some genuine live Jazz in their movies. Also The Duke.
Nat King Cole was perfect when very busy, people lining up for a snack/drink. Really listening.

This space is between old-forum style and chatroom. Or a gentle place were people say "Hi" come for small talk, have a bite or a drink, show a photo and say ¨Bye¨.
No need for a heated discussion. I volunteer in a public cultural spot, were people come in motivated to see.
The team itself is very divers, so there can be tension with visitors. Drawing lines how far they can go.
( Insulting ¨jokes", trying to start arguments ). Costs energy. No desire to do that here :)

Appr. 110 miles to the nearest Dutch beachspot " Egmond aan zee ", as seen from Lowestoft.
A popular village . Still has a laid-back feel, even in summer.
Further south Zandvoort , close to Amsterdam. Very busy. Similar weather as England, except the Gulfstream keeps it a bit warmer. The Dutch sea-resorts don´t have the luna-parks like in the UK usually. Entertainment for young and old.
Most of our travels in UK are out of season, empty beaches and merry-go-rounds..

As custom, trains in the Netherlands had good - quality copies from Dutch classic painters hanging on every wall till around 1990.
Going home after a few days working on overnight-trains to sw-Europe, very tired, I was gazing at them, trying not to fall sleep. With half-closed eyes.
Discovering thát was the way to look at Van Gogh' s work, fully opening .
Almost 3-D, another dimension.
I still watch them that way.

Still learning, also about the benefits of Traditional Asian Food. And the dark role colonial Europe played through the ages, with Holland and England often in the middle.

The West part of The Netherlands is average 4 meters below North -Sea level. The main provinces are S & N Holland. Warm dampness will cover it for the period after Dog Days. That means freshly made chicken (-stock) and other meaty products have to be consumed the same day. If not, even a dog will not consume it .🙂

also known by his Korean name Pak Yŏn (Korean: 박연).
In village De Rijp, 22 miles north of Amsterdam is his statue.
