Or French, which is what eventually supplanted Latin for several centuries.

The thing that has me worried was the story this morning that the Russians are passing Iran intel for targeting U.S. assets. This thing may escalate to WWIII yet.

All of that. I lived through a campus shooting once. Never want to feel like that ever again. Never wanted anyone else to have to learn what that felt like.

It's a conundrum. Yes, propaganda, and yes, low-information voters. But I have to say that at least some of the responsibility does fall on the rural voters.
For context, I grew up in a university town that was, at least in my childhood, both suburb-adjacent-ish and farm country. We had an active FFA chapter at my high school, and quite a lot of my classmates were farm kids. We all knew when Del Monte was canning peas by the smell in the air, and if you traveled more than 15 minutes in pretty much any direction you saw barns and silos or elevators and cultivated fields. If you wanted to get ahead in local politics, you had to get the Farm Bureau behind you. The local radio station included that day's prices for corn, soybeans, cattle, and hogs (at least, there may have been others that I no longer remember) and also what certain futures prices were on the Chicago exchanges.
Sometime around 15 years ago now, I was driving to work at said local university from my apartment in a smaller, adjacent community with even closer ties to agriculture. For whatever reason, maybe road construction, I wasn't going by my usual route. I wound up sitting at a stop light at the intersection of a state highway with a major county road, just at the edge of this little town. Just to the west of that intersection, on the north side (I was heading west at the time) there was a fairly large brick farmhouse. It was well-maintained, and so were the farm buildings dotted around the landscape nearby it. Right out in front of the property, probably just at or just over the property line - so it would be visible to motorists passing by that very busy intersection - was a large sign: hand-painted, neatly, but sturdy. My recollection is that it was painted on a 4x6 sheet of plywood, or maybe even a bigger size. It was an election year, and it was in the autumn, so election season was well under way. The message on the sign was simple: "NO SOCIALISM!"
I sat there while I waited for the traffic light and thought about that sign. And I thought about it for the rest of the drive in to work that morning. And I've thought about it since then, every time I remember it.
There are, I think two (and only two) ways to interpret that sign. The first one is more or less what you've outlined here. The owners of that farm who (I presume) put up the sign were just parroting a slogan they'd probably gotten from right-wing propaganda or the local Ghastly Old Perverts organization (which was also very active in the area - the district in question was once Denny Hastert's).
The other way to interpret that sign's meaning, which I think certainly fits better with a lot of current republikkkvnts' thinking) would be "I get mine, but you can't have any." Because I'm sure the family who owned that farm was taking full advantage of all the government supports for farming - because otherwise there's no way they'd be able to keep the farm, never mind keep it up nicely. Crop insurance, land or soil bank payments, crop subsidies, low-interest farm loans, agricultural extension service - all of that. And every bit of that can be construed as socialism. It's the government doing for private businesses what they can't do for themselves - the antithesis of the republikkkvnts' "invisible hand of the market" BS. Clearly, they either didn't think those things were socialism, or they were fine with socialism as long as they benefited from it: they just didn't want other people to have the same benefits.

I kinda want him to retire from the court, yet live long enough to watch his reputation shredded in the history books and his legacy undone by successive opinions and substantive legislation aimed at correcting the more obvious overreaches for which he's been responsible.
And then he can die.

My undergraduate adviser (who also taught me classical Greek) got his Ph.D. at UT-Austin. So despite the fact that he was from Brooklyn, he, perhaps half-jokingly, told us that the way to translate the second person plural of anything was "y'all."
When I've needed a gender-inclusive term for a mixed group, that's been one of my go-tos for many a year now. I'll sometimes use "all y'all," which my Southern friends tell me is the proper plural form of "y'all." Other times, I'll use "folks" or "colleagues."

At least in Greek, the plural of phallus is phalloi. The -ii ending would be a proper Latin plural for some categories of noun. OED says either "phalli" or "phalluses" is the proper plural. Maybe it's my classics background, but I'd go with phalloi.

Haven't had that experience yet - probably because there's a limited number of people who can actually put stuff on my calendar, as opposed to sending a request that I can delete.
I am glad to see a marked decrease in the increasingly passive-aggressive three-week-ish email cycle of
1. Hello, would you like to buy a product/service/certification that's totally unrelated to the work you actually do;
2. A week or so later: Hi, just want to make sure you saw my previous email trying to sell you something that's irrelevant to your job responsibilities. Have you got time for a quick call this week?
3. Another week or so later: I notice you still haven't responded to my last two emails. If you're the wrong person, can you at least tell me who in your organization I should talk to about my thing?
