A new release of coverage․py today with a ton of fixes: https://pypi.org/project/coverage/7.17.0 Also drops 3.10 support.
And, one of the more interesting changelog entries:
> Kept the political banner in the README. Closes issue 2344: https://github.com/coveragepy/coveragepy/issues/2344

In the #Python Discord, someone was trying to understand how Python code is executed without ever being turned into native CPU instructions. So I wrote a tiny programming language compiling to bytecodes. 300 lines of Python.

@nprofile…4xpq Yes, I get why you mistrust Anthropic. I'm asking why you DO trust Open AI? You quote an Anthropic investor calling Dario a religious figure. I gave you Sam Altman alluding to himself as a religious figure.

Python packages should explicitly declare their version support with PyPI classifiers. https://pyreadiness.org/3.13/ lists 90 packages that don't declare support for 3.13, when many of those packages do support it.
It's not hard to do, and it helps people understand what they can count on.

The AI hype-cyclone is bad, but so is the anti-AI witch hunt. Commits co-authored by Claude do not mean that a project has "abandoned engineering as a serious endeavor"
Would we say that accepting contributions from new developers means we've "abandoned engineering as a serious endeavor"? No.
Claude can write wrong code. New contributors can write wrong code. What matters is what you do with that code after it's been written.

Git won't track empty directories (because at heart it only tracks files). Common advice is to add a '.gitkeep' file so the directory isn't empty and git will make the directory.
EVEN BETTER ADVICE: put a README in the directory explaining what the empty directory is for and what will eventually be there.
