@nprofile…r365 if there are mostly small files there, it should

2026-08-19 16:17:52 UTC

- reply

@nprofile…r365 because it depends on the size of the files you gonna store there, if you don't know what size the files are gonna be then pick the default size. I'm guessing most of the files there aren't gonna be as big as the one you showed here, so pick the default allocation size, there will always be some loss because you can't control the size of all the files stored there, picking the default one should cause the smallest loss

2026-08-19 16:03:56 UTC

- reply

@nprofile…r365
mostly bigger files=better to have bigger allocation size
mostly smaller files= use a smaller allocation size or the default one should be fine

2026-08-19 16:00:07 UTC

- reply

@nprofile…r365 then should be ok to pick one of the smallest ones or the default one when formatting it. Like i said, there will be always some loss

2026-08-19 15:51:51 UTC

- reply

@nprofile…r365 will depend on the average size of the files you gonna store there, here's a quote I found on how to geek: "if you choose a 4096 byte block size, and you've got 100,000 files, you'll waste only about 200 megabytes of storage space. On the other hand, if you pick a 64 KB block size with 100,000 files, you'll waste an average of 3.2 gigabytes. It's not really something to lose sleep over considering the sizes of modern SSDs and HDDs."

2026-08-19 15:44:09 UTC

- reply

@nprofile…r365 you will need to format the drive but choose a smaller allocation size, it will always be different but the smaller the allocation size, the smaller the difference or "wasted" space will be

2026-08-19 15:39:06 UTC

- reply

@nprofile…r365 it depends on the allocation size that was chosen when that drive was formatted, the bigger the allocation size the bigger the difference will be. As for why, it is because windows counts all the "slots" inside the drive that the files are using, even the ones that aren't totally full

@nprofile…gwyt a little, I'm already using the advanced interface anyway so is not as complicated, but yeah, I hope someday we can search by text or filter by date and not just tags

2026-07-18 16:43:42 UTC

- reply

@nprofile…gwyt you need to enable the advanced web interface then search for the first tag, pin the results tab, click on the ⚙️ icon and then add the other tags. When you're done just unpin the results tab. I don't think it is possible on any apps so it only works on a browser
