A thought/feeling that bubbled up over the weekend...
Many of us who work in software development are being told loudly and often how excited we should be that AI can* now write code - so we can concentrate on other things instead. It's weird to me that anyone would expect people who chose a profession/field of study based on their interest in an activity to be bubbly and enthusiastic about *not* getting to do it any longer.
*quality/accuracy/basic function may vary

The world is imploding and I need to sit in a meeting about API integration later as though everything is normal

A classic 💯 People are often wrong-footed by the album containing the a capella version, so anyone wanting to hear the amazing production needs to find the single! Sound On Sound did a great write-up on the group in this era; https://www.soundonsound.com/techniques/classic-tracks-soul-ii-soul-back-life

I had an argument with some young men last year where I mentioned the original "Muslim ban" - one of them didn't even believe/remember that that had happened, and went very quiet when he googled to check. Wonder what they'd make of this...

This is why so many of us were alarmed when they started doing this to accused, or even convicted terrorists - we knew it wouldn't stop there.

"The Labour MP Bell Ribeiro-Addy, chair of the all-party parliamentary group on African reparations, said: “It is sickening to think of Oxford dons, sitting in this bastion of privilege, itself enriched by the proceeds of centuries of colonial violence and extraction, swilling drink out of a human skull that may have belonged to an enslaved person and has been so little valued that it has been turned into an object.”"
Just vicious, devilish business.

I hear all the new nicknames for Cybertrucks/Teslas in general and wish to submit "Reich-Hand Drive" for consideration.

I honestly don't know what the point was of the mountain of WW2 material in the media over the years, the channels full of "rise of the Nazis" documentaries, the constant exhortations to remember...only for precisely none of the lessons to actually have been learnt at all.

The UK political/corporate scene should take note of the tenor of public reaction to the shooting of the UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson this week. This arm of the insurance industry is *hated*.

As was always likely to happen, my vinyl digitisation project is widening! After deciding to do all my 80s/90s soul/funk/"boogie" 45s, I looked at the box of miscellaneous 45s and completing that is within reach too... that would leave just my old-school soul/funk 45s to be done before that whole format would be boxed off!

On Monday I went back to Leeds for Leeds West Indian Carnival and had a lovely day! Met up with a few friends from there, plus me and my fiancee gave some people lifts from Manchester, most of whom had never been to the event before. Everyone had a great time, and it was nice to be able to introduce them to what is still a high point of every year 😊
