Whoever designed, implemented, and worked on the #KDE System Settings application is a genius.
I'd like to see more menu designers model theirs after it.
That is all. :)

I know you've gotten a bunch of responses already, but I'll throw out one more scenario: If I boot my dual-booting (win11/linux) system to win11 via Grub then try via the UEFI Bootloader, I am prompted for my Bitlocker recovery key just as you are here, and vice versa. I think the TPM has the capability to save the most recent successful boot method across re-starts.
You didn't happen to do something similar to using two different bootloaders, did you?

This is the type of thing that I find so frustrating about KDE Discover (and Gnome Software). They abstract the user from the native tools of any distro, and frequently fall short of perfection in their coordination with those distros.
I've upgraded Fedora something like 20 times using dnf on both Gnome and KDE Plasma DEs, and I've never had a problem like the one you encountered.
But just in case, I do always do the backup thing first. :)

You've gotten some pretty good feedback from people who are way more in the know that I am. But anyone can imagine how frustrating an imperfect upgrade can be.
If you, like me, did the upgrade via the dnf plugin (https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/quick-docs/upgrading-fedora-offline/), you might have noticed the red Warning! box at the beginning of the "Performing System Upgrade" section. It recommends doing a backup to start.
No matter which distro you go with, it would probably be a good idea to consider following that advice.

I came here to suggest this. You'd likely get dumped into a console terminal shell. If so, you would then run the suggested journalctl command.
Also, I don't think you need a root password; I believe you can still use "sudo -i" to get a root login shell.
Finally, the screen response suggested three options, I think. I would've tried them all.
Good luck!

I just bought a Pixel 9a mobile phone, and I'm trying my darnest to de-Gurgle as much as possible. So I've installed #GrapheneOS on it. (Note: Wicked easy to do. Great job, developers!)
The question: If I still need a few Gurgle apps (Calendar, Contacts, etc) and a few from its Play Store, 1Password, e.g., at least temporarily, can I do that with a modicum of privacy, or does this completely negate the purpose of installing GrapheneOS?
Thanks!

And, while Debian SID is unstable by the project's definition, it isn't really unstable, IME. :)
Finally, the thing about the length of that divergence+ section may have been what I was mostly struck by. Given that you strongly endorse installing from the repos, updating a diverged distro shouldn't be so bad. At least I haven't found that to be the case.
It's a great document, and I'm glad someone is putting together something so comprehensive. Thanks, again!

The thing about Debian Testing is that if a security issue is found upstream, it is fixed in SID and propagated to Debian right away. Testing is the last distro to receive security updates.

Thanks for putting that together, great write up!
Unsurprisingly, I have a couple of comments. :)
(1) It might be good to comment on the quality of support a distro has from it's support community options, such as forums, chat channels, etc; (2) The example of Debian Testing as getting quicker updates seems flawed; there are reasons, including security issues, why Debian SID might be the better choice there; (3) Do you even need the discussion on divergence, etc, here?

Just to boost your confidence: I've been using LUKS encryption in Linux installs for at least 20 years. I don't think I've ever had a problem with it. And it has nothing to do with Grub2 as far as I'm aware.
That is, unless you're wanting to encrypt the partition where your kernel and initrd/initramfs are located. If you are, things will get more complicated. :)
Good luck!

One of the first acts I perform after a new #linux #gnome installation is to remove all gnome-software packages. Use your native package managers to do updates, including flatpak. They work fine.
I installed both Gnome and #KDE DEs on my system. There's no reason to assume that this isn't also true for KDE installs and Discovery.

These are the worst types of problems!
But, still, I think you might learn something by looking at your system journal to see if there's some effect present at boot time. That would be the basis for a kernel/ACPI interaction bug report.
If not, you may be having a hardware issue of some sort. The kernel pros will be able to help you determine that.
Good luck!

Before you do that, you might try to give things going on at boot time to have a look for errors in the kernel-ACPI interactions.
If you're on you first boot after a crash, try: 'journalctl -b -1', and do a search for ACPI; if not, adjust the -1 accordingly. You should find several instances of this as your system boots; look among them for errors that might provide a clue on why you're having this issue.
Btw, is your system's BIOS firmware up to date?

Life will be so much worse, not just in the USA, and not just for women, if we have a second Trump presidency. This is not abstract thinking.

I'm confident that a second Trump administration, along with a GOP Senate and House will do better for everyone, including Palestinians! Hopefully, you'll live sweetly on the knowledge you enabled it.
Just so I know what you'll be experiencing, is that what they call schadenfreude?
