Every time you view or like a post or take most actions on Bluesky or Blacksky your requests go through your Personal Data Server (PDS). It’s also the home of all your data.
To date, we’ve used other people’s software to run Blacksky’s fleet of PDS.

Earnestly posting on April Fools'. Here's hoping that 2025 brings first-class support for communities on AT Protocol:
- I wanna see delegated moderation (opt to have a mod service apply labels under a post + control replies)
- Community verification (not just blue checks)
- Badges as gifts + more

Looking forward to my @npub1lzm…f69r ATmosphere Conf talk next week, meeting my internet friends for the first time IRL, and connecting with the Umoya Fellows.

My first 3 min video upload is [@williamcson.bsky.social](https://bsky.app/profile/williamcson.bsky.social ) talking about leftist organizing but is also my view on wealthy investors and tech industry types dictating what atproto needs to “get to the next level”
“You cannot know what everybody needs … what everybody’s going to have to do to get free”

Built a local-first atproto CAR viewer. CAR files are part of atproto’s "credible exit" but even if users export their data, there’s no easy way to inspect it. rsky-satnav displays repository contents in a structured view. Will build on this over time (validate repo, etc)

You’re laughing. They want to put already public, distributed Bluesky data on the Blockchain and you’re laughing.

Why use a new technology (atproto) to do something you’ve already done b4 (build TikTok)
Why not do something you couldn’t do before (custom feeds, leverage decentralized identity, integrate social features into non-social apps, mixmatch lexicons)
“past results don’t guarantee future returns” etc

Today I've rolled out the rsky-labeler service to automatically label and report anti-Black content.
This means that within milliseconds of someone using an anti-black slur in a post, profile bio, display name, or handle it'll be labeled as antiblack-harassment and reported to [@blacksky.app](https://bsky.app/profile/blacksky.app )

Friendly reminder you only have to use #AddToBlacksky once and never again.
I see folks tagging every post with it or #Blacksky. You don’t have to do that.

My little self-care project over the next few weeks is scraping the last 5yrs of my liked posts on Instagram (13K posts, 30GB of media) to plug into a custom Pinterest/Cosmos style app.
Scraping's done. Will work on the app in the next few weeks (no deadline). Then try putting on @proto #atdev

For a lot of us, atproto projects are some of the biggest (most users, most publicized, most code written, etc.) projects we’ve ever done. For me, it’s also my first time working in open source (ironically, someone asked me to be more open about that)
If you can help, pls check out open issues.

There's been a wave of extremist raids on Bluesky in the last week. It was brought to my attention that Blacksky may be a target. Please ping me (tag, DM, email, etc.) if you notice any agitators in the feed. Also report the post to bsky mods.
I've already flagged to T&S and they are aware. #nofeed

You've heard it from all the other devs but yeah, Blacksky almost doubled in new users, the database is at 100% cpu usage, and total daily visits has eclipsed every other major US news event this year.
Bom dia, Blacksky Brasil 🇧🇷

Feels pretty notable the celebration of Blackness during this year's DNC, regardless of how you feel about the Harris-Walz campaign. And it's been obvious to me how active Blacksky has felt over the last couple nights. That activity is visible in the data too!

And with that, I do believe the Blacksky PDS is mostly complete*.
Will be doing some API tests before trying to deploy and make test accounts, etc.

Happy 1 year of the Blacksky feed 🎈. Thanks for 10M views. Thanks for the 100K people who've used the feed. Thanks to the thousands who use the feeds daily. Thanks to the people who share the feed. Even thankful for the press mentions (as long as you spelled the name right).
Shout out to y'all.
