Somehow my most controversial anarchist opinion is that we shouldn’t torture, maim, and consume our fellow sentient beings.

Doing estrogen, but putting little dabs of testosterone on my nipples so I can legally go topless at the straight people beach

Think about how much better the world would be if we stopped giving people who went to Harvard and Yale jobs.

Are you local to PDX and have any extra PLA or other 3D printer filament sitting around gathering dust? I’m part of a mutual aid collective that prints functional things for houseless folks and we could use all the filament we can get. Alternatively if you have access to a 3D printer and would like to contribute, also happy to send .STL files and collect finished prints!

Something like 13% of the population of the US takes SSRI’s. Good fucking luck dipshit.

For no reason today seems appropriate to quote David Graeber:
“Direct action is the insistence, when faced with structures of unjust authority, on acting as if one was already free.”

Opening a fake goodwill donation center in the rich part of town and using it to make a free store.

Here’s a summary of events of Germany in early 1933 for no reason whatsoever:

Universities will obey in advance because they are institutions that exist to facilitate the reproduction of capital, but also because they are run by fucking cowards.

The state can neither confirm nor invalidate one’s transness. The illusion that it can has constrained our potential, the recognition that it can’t is a wellspring of autonomy.

Many academics are ineffectual not because of their mode of employ, but because their structures of analysis are purely abstract. When the stakes of your approach to real problems are just “tenure,” you will never substantively address the problem itself, only how to capture it for personal gain.

Going to say what I think is a hard truth for folks: I believe the dems will win without capitulating on Palestine, thereby giving them (in their minds) a mandate for more of the same. We need to rethink strategy to effectively confront this going forward, reorienting towards the withdrawal of labor and blocking the arteries of capital.

Still no greater instantaneous litmus test for the left than asking someone about the Syrian Civil War.

Kill the academic urge to state “I like to think of [thing that is verifiably true] as [thing that I made up which sounds cooler]” in your head.

Another person self-immolated in the US over Gaza and no one gives a shit.

this is why I’m so interested in the question, because it seems like there are schools with heavy financial stakes, those which have highly ideological boards/presidents, those that are beholden to the state, and then those which have none of those things that are still all bringing the hammer down. Is it just a herd mentality because everyone who runs a uni now is the same kind of neoliberal coward?

I get it at a national policy level, but can anyone explain to me the hyperinvestment in protecting Zionism at universities? Donor/class interest? Connections to military/tech/industry contractors?

The mere existence of large sums of people in one place is insufficient to engender much of anything beyond the hollow spectacle of their presence; a massified bubble which collapses the moment the weight of its ineffectuality is realized.

I’ve almost entirely replaced social media scrolling with reading history books about suffering on an unfathomable scale and in response I can palpably feel my sense of doom and despair lifting

at this point I’m fairly convinced it’s the only reason the economy stays “good” so I can’t see the practice going anywhere unfortunately

While still in the realm of capitulating to capital, banning stock buybacks would be an incredible boon to the overall wellbeing of the world.

I think what’s most insidiously forgotten is that faculty hate DEI shit and recognize it for the neoliberal pandering that it is, but are forced to defend it when the definition becomes DEI = the existence of non-white people and curricula

Begging people to remember that in 2008 Obama rode a wave of hope against the cataclysmic horrors of the Bush admin and then proceeded to continue doing all of them.
