the admin agreed with me that the initial post was out of line
@npub1nve…x6rd

not at all, because The Tavern has TOS. throwing a bomb into the timeline blanket accusing ppl of being assholes doesn't align with it

her initial comment is broad enough that it would include me, yes, even if unintentionally. i'm pretty passionate about the genocide in Ukraine.
so yeah, i find her comment rude and unwelcoming, and honestly just overall unhelpful to her goal.
puritanical behaviour just doesn't help.
yes, ppl should try to be considerate, but things happen and one will never be able to account for everything.
that's why it's most important to be responsible for oneself.

- reply

well you made a very broad and public statement, and whether intentional or not, i would fall in your category, especially when it comes to Ukraine.
i can't say about others here but i see politics flitting about regularly, some CWed some not. your statement came off as pretty harsh, aggressive and unnuanced to my ears.

we disagree on what common courtesy is. being judgmental, pushy and demanding of others is incredibly inconsiderate and self-centered behaviour.
we disagree on the etiquette here. because that's life and we can't control everyone.

i don't think public nudity is the same as public opinions, especially if those opinions aren't breaking TOS of the instance.
there's just only so much you can do because you can't control the world.
otherwise, we cope.
and, in point of fact, i don't think calling ppl assholes is in line with a welcoming, safe environment @npub1nve…x6rd

I'm not espousing something so extreme as NEVER CW. sometimes i will, sometimes i won't, sometimes i forget, sometimes i Boost things that aren't CWed.
that's just life in all its variety.
the point is, own our own needs, don't put it on others, and certainly don't be all judgy about it.

2025-02-23 19:13:21 UTC

i have empathy. that person is clearly engaging in activity they aren't ready for yet and should engage in more self-care. because no matter what, we cannot control the rest of the world to meet our needs.
we take ownership of our issues and damage and deal with it. we don't burden others with tiptoeing on glass for us.

2025-02-23 19:03:33 UTC

- reply

scan it and move along if it's not for you. it's impossible to account for everyone else's various needs, that's why we be responsible for ourselves rather than burdening other ppl with it.

2025-02-23 18:27:44 UTC

- reply

that seems a bit excessive to me. can't say i agree with that. ppl need to be responsible themselves for the content they consume.

ok, for now i've decided to go with #Deezer.
it's easy to use, sounds great, has a great selection and recs, and a nice Linux client.
it's also based in #France, which is important to me to try and choose things within the #EU.
#Tidal, it seems, was bought by Jack #Dorsey, and while he's not a fashie afaict, I need a break from things subject to #American controls. I have so little faith in the #US at this point.

2025-01-28 11:39:02 UTC

Thoughts on alternatives to #Spotify?
I'm going to check out #Deezer

I'm kind of fussy about video quality, and I get sad that my when I import a vid from Twitch to Peertube, the transcoded video isn't great. :/
i'm gonna try a live stream direct to PT next time and see how it compares.

2025-01-22 13:13:27 UTC

How about a little #Sonic to brighten your day?
@npub1nve…x6rd i'm using flatpak OBS for this one! worked perfectly!

let me know how that goes for you. eventually i got tired of recompiling all the time and needing cef-minimal just to get browser sources, that i gave up on browser sources and just use the basic OBS from the arch repo

2025-01-21 22:28:10 UTC

in these challenging days, don't forget to use your own filters! you can auto-block out any particular content, names, hashtags you just never want to see.
i know i do! XD
