@npub1hmq…rlex is there any way to have an algorithmic timeline on liberal.city where I could have those who I follow get put forward if anyone else favorites or replies to their toots? RN I see everyone I follow as they post it, but if others are interacting with posts I would like to see those toots.

Well according to AIPAC and those who hold onto being the gatekeepers of antisemitism for dear life, chanting "Death to America" is cause to drop bombs on military targets that exist within the NPT while chanting "Death to Arabs" in the Netherlands is just 'boys being boys' and should in no way have consequences when they proceed to commit property crimes and target Muslim taxi drivers for harassment.
Hope that clears up who the good guys and who are the war criminals.

aren't the wealthiest individuals able structure their finances so that regardless of where they actually live, their wealth will be where there's the least tax liability with the most access to it? If I fund my black AMEX with my overseas bank account I can pay for everything in whatever country I'm in and my money will continue to be growing with interests and dividends with nominal taxes.

the parasocial relationships is both a means of keeping the content creator accountable and has restricting affect on too much growth, so that I could be a TYT member with hundred thousands of others or be one of a thousand of paying Patreons of a podcast that responds to each email. Hell, I've been a guest on a podcast that can't be done on any of the "major" podcasts. Am I going to stop subscribing to the podcasts of the guy who I have met or the creator who doesn't know me?

audience capture is more of a concern for the creators that are overly avarice about their revenue (Tenet Media w/$10 million by Russian oligarchs being an extreme example of this), but there's already creators who's content and parasocial relationships w/ their audience is just a side gig, that there is no ambition than to be the equivalent of a garage band getting pocket change is always going to be there too big the audience does not have that relationship.

2025-04-24 21:20:02 UTC

- reply

directly funded by your own audience is the best defense against corporate infestation of the media. That media is a growing percentage (and having a deeper relationship with parasocial relationships with the creators) of overall content consumption. Sure no one podcast is going to have tens of millions of of listeners but there will be a million podcasts with a hundred million listeners each having their own overlapping following, independent of the corporate hegemony.

2025-04-24 20:30:16 UTC

but corporate algos can't change the audience's behavior, as much as a thumb is pressed on the scale in favor of corporate media on YT or Spotify or wherever, the audience is not going to accept a firehose of the corporate approved content. Consuming media in whatever you want, whenever you want, wherever you want, however you want, isn't able to get put back genie's bottle. Ads will go towards the audience, no matter how ad friendly the corporate media will be.

OP-Ed that was written in part by #Tufts grad student #RumeysaOzturk

This is the video of her arrest by plain clothes #ICE agents

So there's a freedom of speech but don't dare to point out that student government making demands based on the student handbook and the #ICC's plausible claim of genocide in #Gaza because that is too odious for American right to political speech.

I once had a back and forth about moderation being bespoke by means of DIY and one of those whiners stated "it shouldn't be my job to moderate my feed". What I thought was a feature he thought was a bug that made Mastodon useless.
FB, IG, xitter all commandeer our attention with no ability to control our own feed, if one wants that then they can keep it, but I like the ability to tweak my feed within a inch of its life or just accept less than perfectly cultivated feed.

is there any alternative to Substack that you find preferable for journalists to use? Is Patreon better, though I guess for podcasts and less so for newsletters and long form written journalism?

FOF is looking to raise $30 million, right? How little money would it take to supercharge the fediverse, and where would it be needed? Could it be done by grants, crowdsource, tipcup, all-the-above? If there was $100k injected into Mastodon could that do more than bitching about bluesky? That number must less than $30 million.

It's very likely that AT Protocol is a gambit for bluesky investors to be secure that they will be able to aquire user base to be monetized later through the usual enshitification process that @npub1fdr…lvhs has spelt out throughly and then would be befitting to being called B.S.

"Along with the gun, police found a silencer and fake IDs, according to the official."
Why hold onto the evidence for his bus trip to Georgia and then to Pennsylvania? This guy avoided cameras, went into a crowd of people that is Central Park, pays with cash for a hostel, taxi, and bus ticket, but hauled around evidence that could convict him?
Make this make sense, that they are the same person?

the American ethos went from anyone could be an expert/authority of the snake oil salesman and itinerant preachers of the 19th century, to everyone is their own authority abandoning the norms that also make so many Americans susceptible to nonsensical conspiracy theories. "If it's from this {source}, THEY MUST have evidence to corroborate/verify it". When the authorities say USS Maine/Gulf of Tonkin/WMDs is a reason to have sons die on foreign soil, other absurdities are believed

I saw this man-on-the-street interview of MAGA rally goers and the interviewer posed the question about Trump having lost the last election, and all the MAGAs were in disbelief to that fact. One lady even pointed out "look around, how can you say that he lost, everywhere you turn they love him". The interviewer posed the hypothetical about Taylor Swift, that if he asked attendees of her concert could look around and say the same thing despite MAGA lady saying she wasn't a fan of Swift
