We hit a new low today: @nprofile…x9t9, the organisers of #YH4F, a #FOSS coding competition for teenagers, have allowed vibe-coded projects to enter the competition, and awarded first prize to a nominee who apparently hasn't written any line of code himself. Instead, he generated the project using non-free "AI', dumped it onto a non-free platform, with a demo video on another non-free paltform.
I am disconcerted by this betrayal of principles, values and allyship, and the disrespect towards competitors.

In light of #openSUSE's recent ToS drama locking out young people (currently on hold), and new regulations trying to discriminate against children coming up every day, I will be giving a short talk at #oSC26 on Thursday at 16:30
"Keeping digital spaces open for young people"
https://events.opensuse.org/conferences/oSC26/program/proposals/5211
The talk slot is **much** too short for the topic, but I invite everyone to discussion after the talk.

That doesn't make for a good start, marketing-wise. Especially with reference to FOSDEM, where Bluesky's boss was removed from the conference by visitor protest last year 😅.

PSA: I saw the transphobic, anti-LGBTQ, right-wing, COVID and all else conspiracy theorist "cornelinux" got a spot at #FOSDEM with his "#privacyIDEA" stand. He's already banned or shadow-banned from all German conferences.
You might want to avoid it if you don't want to support a project and company with someone promoting all the above as their lead.
