now that I've caught up and figured out #cloudinit on #libvirt I find out about #incus

I installed #zabbix on a test server yesterday, the first time I've deployed a #php app in ~15 years.

Works with #debian, works with #fedora. Fails to change root password or configure network on #rocky 10.2. Same with #alma. https://github.com/alrs/totes

Is it me, or is every #redhat variant older than #fedora 44 totes broken as a VM being configured by #cloudinit?

[@ben](https://tilde.zone/@ben ) Regarding logging and restoration: if you run "snoopy" on your machine, configure it to log to syslog, and then ship your syslog to another machine you'll have a record of every shell interaction up until the moment your box gets nuked. Reach out over XMPP or Signal if you want to talk about it.

the best thing you can do to keep obsolescence out of your life is to never run discs, never run hydraulics. Pretty much anything 1975-2005 can be made to work, somehow. It's going to be rolling windows of five years of compatibility from 2010 out to forever.

how many cogs on your cassette? I buy cheap carbon tube/aluminum lug bikes from the early '90s for under $100USD for the parts. No one is going to miss a Trek 2300 or a Specialized Allez Epic.

A #conversations #xmpp gotcha: If your #android phone has "Enhanced Notifications" turned on you're sending all of your incoming chat messages to a #google #ai that then generates boilerplate "see you then!" replies.

"modules_disabled = { "s2s" }" in #prosody will make you an #xmpp island. I agree that bridges are a nightmare. I do think that modern #xmpp is pretty close to what you're looking for, and is worth checking out. I'll stop bugging you.

You can set XMPP up to be non-federated, like I do. You still get the advantage of a healthy client ecosystem without the raids. The only people on my server are the people on my server.

The only disadvantage to #XMPP right now is that the iOS clients are kind of wonky, which in your case doesn't really matter. The #Conversations client as found in F-Droid is excellent, The console #Profanity client is good, #Dino on the desktop worked well enough for the five minutes I checked it out.
