Please consider investing time on the #FLOSS tools you use, by reviewing the PRs. As a general rule, the more eyes there are on the PRs, the better software and documentation we all will have at the end. This spans from actual technical reviews to catching typos.
In our project, 99% of the burden have been exclusively on two people (mostly one actually), and that, frankly, is not sustainable and cause burnouts.

2026-10-11 08:03:39 UTC

There have been some malicious activity happening lately and bad actor are trying to impersonate the Flameshot project and devs. If you received any messages or files, be careful. We never send anyone any files or ask them for anything (e.g. information or money).
The only three source of truth are:
1. Our Github organization:
https://github.com/flameshot-org
2. Our website:

3. Our Fediverse account:

Signing a binary doesn't make the code automatically safe. Therefore any enterprise that value their security should audit the code or at least compile themselves. Alas, the negotiations is ongoing. Stay tuned for news about that 🙂
@npub17l5…llmg
As for donations, it has practical and legal challenges, especially tax. Sp far all the costs have been off our own pocket since day 1. The best way to help out the project would be to help with bug report or even code bounty:

No, we are in communication with a sponsor for that, but Apple toolchain and bureucracy have made it complicated.
That said, many companies are using Flameshot already on their machines. Their IT build Flameshot after auditing the code and then distribute it internally within their organization.
Perhaps your company can also sign with their own key after auditing the code.

We are getting ready for v15 beta release. There are quite a few important changes that we are excited about and it would be great if we can iron out the potential bugs before the stable release of v15.
Users who are using our AUR (i.e., `flameshot-git`) have been already using the bleeding edge, but soon the binaries for Flatpak, AppImage, Windows, macOS, etc. would be available for users to help us test.

We have **zero-tolerance** policy for bad mouthing and being nasty. The first instance of uncivilized sentence equals immediate **permanent ban**. Working on Flameshot might be a charity work, but our nerves are definitely not included in this charitable volunteer work.
I hope those who are considering to interact with this project consider this golden rule.

Flameshot dev team is not the one maintaining Homebrew. You need to contact the maintainer. The only packages we maintain are:
- Assets on out GitHub repo release page
- Flameshot on AUR
- Flameshot on Flathub
- Flameshot on Snapcraft (will soon drop support for that)

Flameshot v14.0.rc3 (beta) is here!
We're gearing up for the next stable release, and we need your help to make sure it's rock-solid.
This beta brings a bunch of fixes, including for macOS clipboard and GNOME Wayland, plus official BSD binaries.
We'd love for you to test it out and let us know if anything you rely on is broken or behaves unexpectedly. Your real-world use cases are the best way for us to catch edge cases we might have missed.

I manually triggered them. They should be now ready. Just explain why they were expired, it is because running Arm builds take 38 to 52 minutes per run, and for that reason we have separated them from our daily builds. So any time you need them and they were expired, send us a message and we will manually run it. Maybe later I set it to automatically run weekly or biweekly, but for now it is run on demand.

📣 We have made some major changes to handle multi-monitor setup. Users with multiple monitors with non-rectangular alignment or those with different scaling factor were previously facing issue. With the new update, the user is asked to select the target monitor. This is a cross-platform solution that universally works.
This will be included in the next release, but those who are building from the source or using AUR can try it now. Feedbacks are as always welcome.

It seems Imgur, has quietly dropped API support for new users. If you already have an API key, it still works, but no nee keys can be generated. So it is more likely to see some errors in Imgur uploading regardless of the Flameshot version. Be aware that this has nothing to do with Flameshot.

If you are experiencing "Unable to capture" error on Wayland, especially on Ubuntu or Fedora Gnome, regardless of your installation method, give screenshot permission to Flameshot through xdg-portal by running this in terminal:

I also just realized. If you are on Gnome Wayland and you get this error when you use keyboard shortcut but Flameshot works fine from terminal, then this is something that's as far as I understand out of our hand as Gnome has changed some stuff about shortcuts. Just a correction: imgur uploader is not a separate program. It is disabled by default and if someone needs it, they can enable it during the compile time with a compile flag. In future we are planning to migrate it to a plugin and keep the Flameshot lean and specific to screenshot and annotation.

Try Flameshot on X11 or on Wayland, and see for yourself. It simply works. Wayland has some rough edges that we are working on, but it works. Give it a try. We support Gnome, Plasma, Cosmic, Sway, Niri, River, Hyprland,... and labwc is wlroot-based, so it works.
To capture a monitor, use `flameshot screen --number 1`, to capture part of a monitor interactively, run `flameshot gui`, or part of a screen automatically, run `flameshot gui --region 100x100x100+100`.

The X11 works as before, unless Qt6 have done something differently. As for multiple-monitor setup, one can use for example `flameshot screen --number 1` to only capture one monitor. This is regardless of X11 or Wayland.
@npub194s…csph
We have worked hard on Wayland. There are still some rough edges, especially when it comes to fractional scaling on multi-monitor setups, but that's aa work in progress.

Just as a recap, we at Flameshot don't accept direct donations, and the only way people can financially contribute is by putting bounty on the issues they like to get resolved. This way any developer in the world would have the incentive to solve the issue, which would also reduce the burden from our devs too. A win-win situation.

2025-06-04 05:41:03 UTC

After a prototype of a plugin system and some discussions around the design, it was decided that we should revisit the drawing board as there were some aspects that we didn't foresee in the first RFC of the Plugin System.
📣There is now a RFC based on those discussions and experiences, and it would be great to have input from the community about the technical design of the RFC:

@npub1avj…jh3v It was nice seeing your Hyperland config and having Flameshot in the mix. The `flameshot-git` AUR is officially supported by us, and it follows the HEAD of the master branch of our git repo. In other words, it is more updated than the one that is shipped in Arch because Arch releases follow the released stable versions. Think of the flameshot-git AUR as rolling release of beta version if you will 😊
