There were something like 200 Soviet sleeper cells deployed to the US during the Cold War.
Post-1992 we got a look at the KGB files.
Most of the sleeper cells went native. Life in the US was too good and Russians the were sent her just stopped responding to their KGB handlers.

Let's be real here, if they wanted to solve that problem they could just buy one off fucking Russia or something.
More likely Pakistan, being Islamic brother states and all.
Note widely known: When a nuke is detonated, the fallout from it can be sampled to determine what nuclear reactor the material came from.
That's one of the reasons that Israel has not publicly tested a nuke, because then SOMEONE would need to explain why their nuclear cores all came from the Savannah River Nuclear Power Plant.
If Iran tests a nuke and the fallout says "Tomsk-7 1994" then Russian has some explaining to do, especially since they are a signatory to the non-proliferation treaty.
There is no technical reason that Iran hasn't declared that it has a bomb.
So far, all of the reasons have been political. It would not surprise me to see Iran change their mind on this given current events.

2025-06-18 14:36:20 UTC

- reply

Iran has been "working on" getting a nuke since the 1990s. It's been in the open press since at least 1995.
They've been working with Russia, North Korea, and Pakistan.
They idea that they don't at a minimum have the parts for a nuke sitting in a bunker somewhere after 40 years approaches the kind of fantasy that is normally reserved for toddlers.
Iran has heretofore not declared that they have a nuclear weapon because:
a) it changes how they deal with and are treated by other countries, and:
b) They figure they don't have enough of them to deter aggression.
If Israel is actually hitting some of their production sites then "b" will never be solved.
All that leaves is "a" and since they are already being bombed nightly that calculus may be changing.
They watched what we did to Libya when Khaddafi gave up his nuclear weapons program and they watched Gulf War One and Two.
Trump is NOT going to get his way on this. That ship has sailed.

Steps
Add the rye whiskey, sweet vermouth, and bitters into a mixing glass with ice and stir until well-chilled.

The prepper community has had this as a concern for quite some time.
The "Golden Horde," where multitudes stream out of the cities and ravish the countryside.
One of the reasons preppers push for stockpiling guns and ammo. Not for their neighbors, but for the Okies that start showing up.
Having watched several dry-runs in major cities, I'm not all that concerned with the Horde. Most of them will shelter-in-place until all the local resources are consumed, and then they'll try to flee but be on foot and with no food. They won't make it far.
My suspicion is that it will be like Sarajevo. Urbanites will die, country folk will barely notice.
When Selco was asked why he didn't flee when the fighting started he basically said that by the time he realized it was serious this time, it was too late. There were armed gangs everywhere.
