And, it’s not even going away. It’s being reorganized under Marco Rubio in the State Dept.

The only thing you’re blocking by turning off notifications at night is your best friend from sending you righteous memes at the perfect hour. Stop avoiding your joy.

I have no stake in Nostr. I’m just a user, and a pretty light one at that.
If you believe that it’s that bad, then why are you using it?

The recent wave of bans, verification and blue check removals, demonetizations, subscriber cancellations, and changes to the algorithm to effectively throttle the reach of dissenting voices on #x should be a watershed moment for Nostr.
The supposed “free speech public square” has shown itself to be no different than #twitter under Dorsey. Accounts that say unapproved things are being shut down or having their reach throttled. And for those that escape the ban hammer they can expect to have their voices muffled and their feeds scrubbed free of any wrongthink.
Does X owe them anything? No. Not even a platform to speak from. But for a company whose owner has been banging the drum of free speech and claiming, repeatedly, how X was *the* place for all voices, you can’t blame those affected for feeling betrayed and speaking up.
This will be a mask off moment for #elon who, between his earlier push for H1B visas (and subsequent bizarre responses) and, now, by banning/demonetizing/algorithmhas seen his support on the right evaporate. In just a few weeks he’s gone from libertarian tech darling to political pariah.
More worrisome than his actions taken on X, are the deeper concerns about his connections to the CIA, military, and public-private censorship and surveillance cabal. @npub1g05…40hv has been thorough, vigilant, and relentless in her reporting on this, and, if you haven’t already, I highly suggest following her and reading her research and perspective on the situation. It’s the best real journalism you’re going to encounter.
So, what can we do? Spread the word about #nostr on other platforms. Every voice that’s silenced somewhere else has a home here. Use your reach to share the value Nostr brings to those you follow and interact with who are feeling the squeeze. Share @npub18am…p424's excellent intro to Nostr video. Show them who is already here that is in their orbit. Be welcoming. Let this be the catalyst that starts the exodus from centralized, compromised, surveilled, controlled platforms for the masses.

Please, bro. You don’t understand. If we don’t get out the vote, then democracy dies. Bro, think of the example you’re setting. The US isn’t corrupted or compromised. You gotta stop it with the conspiracies. Yeah, some may be true, but think of how much worse it would be if nobody trusted the government. Bro, please. We live in a society. Just don’t think about it.

I joined after hearing about it on Reddit. What keeps me here is the sense of community, the freedom, and the genuine and useful information being shared.
My first day exploring was the first time I have felt that same sense of wonder I did when first logging onto the internet and discovering new, weird websites. Everything was fresh, fascinating, and exciting. That’s something I haven’t felt in decades and it’s fantastic.
Up until now much of the online experience has been homogenized drudgery where you may see an article, image, conversation that gives the occasional fleeting boost. But here, I’m finding those things in abundance and actually want to engage rather than give a half-hearted, passing like.
Is this a honeymoon phase destined to wane? Maybe? But I haven’t even encountered one since the early days of FB when you needed a valid college email address to access it.
Whatever the case, I’m grateful for the experience and the community here. And I’m especially grateful for everyone involved in its creation, growth, and protection.
