Why does BBC Media Action consider all this to be important?
If "information disorder spreads, people might start voting the wrong way ("distortion of political debate"), avoid COVID shots, or (gasp!) stop believing in the climate change agenda.

Google Jigsaw, one of BBC Media Action's private sector funders and a proponent of "prebunking" technique, was founded by Jared Cohen, a former State Department official who specialized in the use of digital technologies to foment regime change abroad.

BBC Media Action's favorite counter-disinfo technique is "prebunking," also known as the "psychological inoculation" method.
This method manipulates the public by feeding them weakened versions of disfavored narratives. The goal is to make them less likely to trust the genuine versions of those narratives when encountered.
The technique was pioneered by two of BBC Media Action's partners, the University of Cambridge Social Decision-Making Lab and Google Jigsaw.

Its goal? Regulating the very design of social media platforms.

BBC Media Action said its goal was to use the developing world as a testing lab for online influence methods.
On its website, the nonprofit advertises its ability to reach 100 million people, across 30 countries, in 50 languages.
The lucky countries that get to experience its counter-disinformation techniques include Bangladesh, Ethiopia, Zambia, Libya, Ukraine, Moldova, Georgia, Armenia, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Tonga, Vanuatu Fiji, and Nigeria (the latter courtesy of a Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation grant).

BBC Media Action adopted the term "Information Disorder" from a now-defunct counter-disinformation coalition called First Draft.
First Draft's members included Meedan (funded by the National Science Foundation) and Bellingcat (funded by the National Endowment for Democracy).

When USAID awarded BBC Media Action its funds, the latter's top priority was abundantly clear: deploying its resources around the world to counter "mis-, dis- and malinformation."
The nonprofit blamed the prevalence of "information disorder" for the rise of Trump and Brexit.
