Thanks for all the work you do to add new features to this app. Following conversations does seem like a useful addition.
I wonder if you would consider adding a native GIF picker in the post composer? I've found that is a feature which is missing from basically all Android based Mastodon clients, and it's probably due to API costs etc. Maybe the ability for a user to add their own Klipy API key would solve that?

I already have that setting disabled. I meant specifically in relation to quote posts.

Oh yeah, the quote is loading now. On this subject, is it possible to hide the RE: <Link to Post> at the top of quote posts? Feels redundant to me and not in line with how it's shown on the Mastodon web client.
Okay, didn't realise there was an issue with PeerTube links as well as Pixelfed. Thanks for looking into it!

Is there anyone on the Fediverse that would know how to revitalise a Ficus Bonsai tree?
I’ve had mine for about 10 years and being honest, it hasn’t had much care over that period. I think it needs pruning, but I’m not sure what to do without killing it. Probably needs repotting as well.

I finished Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption yesterday!
It’s interesting because it’s probably one of the rare occasions where the film is more detailed than the book as it’s only a short story. Glad I’ve read it now though.
I’ll probably read the other stories in the Different Seasons book at some point as well. Especially The Body which is the source material for the film Stand By Me.
I’m definitely going to have to rewatch the Shawshank Redemption film soon though! 😆

It was half my life ago since I last read a book, but here I am, reading the story of which one of my favourite films is based on. I can’t help but visualise Morgan Freeman and Tim Robbins as I read it. 😄
This is my start to reducing screen time before bed. Ironic as I’m posting this from my phone right now, but I’m planning to stop bringing any screens to bed with me and replace it with reading instead.

2 achievements left in AC Brotherhood.
One of them I’ve basically been working on all night and that’s getting 100% sync on almost all missions. Nearly there with that one. Just War Machines, Courtesans, and Thieves missions left to do.
The other was a missable achievement so I need to restart the game and play a little ways into it again.
I can see the light (Assassin’s Creed Revelations) at the end of the tunnel.

When I decided to leave my “EighthLayer” online persona behind, I basically changed all of my usernames across the internet immediately to get rid of it for good.
New username wasn’t imaginative; I used my first name and last name stuck together as it’s unique enough to be available everywhere.
For a while now though I’ve grown uncomfortable with this, so I’ve been trying to think of a new one that adds some anonymity for months.
Just as I was about to shutdown for the evening, it came to me. I cancelled my immediate sleep plans to check across the various services I use (mainly gaming related platforms) and it is pretty much available everywhere!
I’m going to sleep on it (yawn 🥱) but I think I’ll likely pull the trigger on it tomorrow! 🤩

I’m having fun with Home Assistant and I’m up later than I should be because of it! 😆
So far I have automations for:
Presence notifications when entering and exiting geofences. 📍

A light turning on an hour before sunset if both my wife and I are out so the dog doesn’t sit in the dark. 🐶

Early morning notification to put washing on when the Met Office probability of precipitation at my location is lower than 10% (still a work in progress as I’m unsure about the reliability of this yet). 🌦️

But I’m just getting started and I’m looking for some inspiration for more automation ideas to create tomorrow as I go to bed tonight.
So what are your favourite smart home automations?

It slipped by without us noticing (or remembering 😅), but a couple of days ago was the first anniversary of The Gamers’ Tavern Mastodon instance!
Just a quick post to thank everyone who has joined or supported us in our little adventure into the Fediverse! Here’s to many more years of gaming chatter, posting funny memes, and Harry hitting trees that appear outta nowhere!
Cheers,

I’ve been playing games on my Xbox more recently. It’s great that’s it’s been getting more use as since I’ve had my PC the last few years, it barely gets used.
The thing I’ve found that bugs me though is I keep needing to resync my Xbox Elite 2 controller every time I switch between Xbox and PC. Even more annoying if I’ve left it in either my office or living room when I’m in the other room, so involves another trip up or down the stairs.
So to fix this small annoyance I decided to pick up the 8BitDo Ultimate 2 for my PC gaming so I can leave the Elite 2 with my Xbox.
First impressions; it’s a neat little controller for the price. Only £42 on Amazon! It’s smaller than I’m used to but that’s fine.
It has two paddles on the back and also an extra pair of bumpers. I’m used to 4 paddles on the back on my Elite 2 so it may take a little getting used to. I look forward to giving it a go!
I also absolutely had to get it in purple! 💜

So with Borg now taking nightly backups, I felt confident I could upgrade Immich.
I ran a docker-compose pull && docker-compose up -d and let it do its thing. Then after it completed and went to my Immich URL, I was met “502 Bad Gateway”… shit. 😐
Luckily after about 5-10 minutes, it came back up again. I thought I’d messed something up. 😆

So far, the [Immich-Go](https://github.com/simulot/immich-go ) tool is working really well with media extract from Google Photos via Google Takeout!
I love that it compares the media to what already exists on Immich and decides if it needs uploading, and even replaces the files if it finds a better quality version of a photo or video. 🤩

I saw this image a while ago and I’ve been trying to apply it more to every day things, like with what I described in [this post](https://gamerstavern.online/@jamie/114853861299459591 ) earlier.
Normally I’m a bit of a perfectionist and I realised that this way of thinking really holds me back from just getting things done sometimes.
Anyway, hopefully just stumbling across it like I did might help someone else as well. 🙂

Okay so this evening I finally got around to setting up some backup logic on my NAS. I have an rclone docker container which runs a “copy” command every night to backup my docker data/config directory and store it in an S3 storage bucket, and the removes itself so it doesn’t use any unnecessary resource.
It’s definitely not perfect (it might even be overly complicated), but it’ll do for now. At least I know I have some form of backup should shit hit the fan.

Today I’ve spent the majority of the day researching different options I might have for self hosting (using the suggestion made here and more) and to say there is a lot out there is an understatement!
For now I’m going to see if I can get hold of an old laptop of mine and use it to do some testing on; installing different applications and seeing what I feel may suit in a more permanent solution.

I'd like a solution to self-host services such as Vaultwarden, Immich and Home Assistant at home. I don't want to rely on cloud solutions for this so I'm thinking maybe along the lines of a Raspberry Pi for the Docker apps and a NAS for the backend storage, but I'm really clueless as what to get. I just know that I'd want something relatively simple and easy to maintain.
I'm also a bit of a Linux and Docker noob so I'm looking to get some advice and ideas from the Fedi community!
What would your suggestions be? What does your home lab setup look like?
