I know you like them, but - to what end a relentless stream of 'polls' with questionable merit other than feeding a lazy media focus as 'evidence'? ☺️
I hate to say it, but the only one that matters is election day. Given how the results of last election are being so spectacularly ignored, the regular drip feed of .0000?% of (?) population is pointless, and damaging for all. I repeat, who is paying and why? Who is polled etc etc. The agenda is likely rife with (un)conscious bias.
And not to mention ignoring the significant and widespread results of polling in favour of a gas tax, no gambling ads etc etc etc.
If after a litmus test of 'mood' just ask around colleagues, friends, club members, folk at the pub / grocer. It amounts to the same thing. And who knows what tomorrow brings to further render the results pointless.
Sure, maybe annual polls at a set time, targeting a broad range of folk could be useful to test policy rather than grievance. Not enabling ON and the hideous division promote via the plethora of polls and media that plays with the data.
Its become a lucrative side business of government, along with lobbyists.

Couldn't agree more - I loathe them.
What a scourge they are and have done nothing but ruin effective governing and meaningful policy development. And the evolution of dodgy, lazy reporting based on *a random set of data*.
A random snapshot of - *who*?, How many? How and why selected? Where do they live?, How have they voted in past? Age range? Personal circumstances that may influence responses? Where do they get their news / political reporting from? How often polled -Why / why not repeated?, Declared vested interests? Who's paying for the poll and desired scenarios being tested? TORs?
Without all that information, the data has no scope for folk to make an informed decision about what the data may suggest for them.
Also, polls rarely seem to go beyond party politics - and mostly 2PP (and now + ON) - so invalid from outset as Greens and Indys often ignored.
Weekly polls are also meaningless and only serve to drive politicians to govern by poll - and react to how the media skews the data.

Most stunning day.
I went to Lake Ginninderra for a walk early arvo (1st day vaguely 'training' for next trip) and such was the weather, I somehow did the entire 7km walk....
Not so great now, flopped on the sofa barely able to move. But, very content. 🚶‍♂️☀️

Hello.
I am heading to Christchurch for a 4- day 'city break' soon - 1st visit to NZ.
I have booked a day trip on the tranzalpine train visiting Alberts Pass & Castle Hill. Also likely to visit Akaroa and hop on a dolphin cruise. Stunning nature ✅️
Research suggests some Christchurch 'sights' may still be under reconstruction after the earthquake. I have booked the hop on/off tram to orientate on day 1.
Wondering if anyone has any tips for what to see / do / prioritise in Christchurch over 2.5 days (no time for any other trips out).
Thanks very much for any input.

Here's an article that may be of interest to folk who live in / visit NSW.
A friend shared a new David Shoebridge video (check out facebook, Instagram, tiktok) where he raises concerns about the company awarded the contract mentioned in this article. And other govt contracts.
(Extract from article)
"The Minns government is set to introduce new laws into New South Wales parliament, so that the power NSW police has to require people to provide access to their digital devices, in order to a facilitate scan and download of their content on execution of a warrant and at threat of prison, is available during more routine arrests, roadside stops and other lawful detentions".
" ...However, once NSW police officers have obtained access to a suspect’s phone, they don’t simply scroll through the owner’s latest social media posts, as rather, they employ a device and software developed by Israeli digital forensics company Cellebrite that once connected to a civilian’s phone downloads its entire content, including all deleted messages and images".

Isn't Port Douglas close to stunning hinterland, rainforests etc etc and good access to the reef? I would stay there for all that. Even if near a beach, I hate swimming in the sea (and sand in pants) so wouldn't visit - hitting the (resort) pool and deck chairs instead every time. 🏊‍♀️
(Salvaging reputation) - Of course, early / late walks on a beach are very nice.
Edit - I may be thinking of Cairns rather than Port Douglas.

Folks,
David Pocock & team recently shared a social media video asking people to help them push back against the gas industry propaganda (links below). The crowdfunding started last week with a great response to date.
The first billboard went up in the Treasurer’s electorate last Friday, and more advertising is booked throughout Canberra airport for budget week. More ads are being planned.
The team has just launched a website with information on gas, and a functionality template that folk can use to email their local member asking them to support the 25% tax on gas export revenue.
Easy peasy email, if you would like to contribute to the growing momentum. Feel free to share website link with your networks.

Folk can subscribe, volunteer, donate if able.
If interested, appreciate assistance to share link with your cbr networks to build momentum. 💪
About -
"We are residents of Belconnen, Gungahlin and the surrounding suburbs who believe our communities deserve better representation than the party-based system is currently delivering.
We come from different backgrounds, have different life experiences and different political leanings. We all however, share a common belief: that we can, and need to be, more connected to the political decisions that shape our lives.
Our small group of locals first came together in January 2026 to discuss what alternative, and more active independent representation could look like for Fenner (Federal), Ginninderra and Yerrabi (ACT). Inspired by other 'Voices of' type movements, we have been growing steadily ever since".

Ken Behrens -

But in the absence of additional strong, suitable alternative candidates (indie / party) I can't see a meaningful change anytime soon.
And yep, 7 probs about right. Even 6 better than the current situation.
Even if the allocated ministries are, to some degree, complementary, it's too much. And, much too much for particular MLA who continually and spectacularly 'under-perform'.

(From wikipedia) As of the 2024 Fourth Barr ministry, Cheyne is the -
- Manager of Government Business
- Attorney-General
- Minister for Human Rights
- Minister for City and Government Services
- Minister for the Night-Time Economy
All have too many portfolios to manage and (as well as capability shortfalls) its showing coz the wheels seem to be falling off from left to right...

2025-12-06 03:32:46 UTC

I think part of the problem for Ken Behrens trying to access public health services at TCH is that its also a primary care centre for regionally located folk. So its a larger pool of folk accessing already limited services here. And then triaging care needs pushes folk down the list.
Even tho NSW govt pays, it doesn't change the number of beds / surgery slots available.
But a year of waiting isn't ok regardless.
Perhaps a chat with the GP about accessing services in NSW - Queanbeyan, Sydney, Goulburn (?), other - may speed things up (and assuming Canberra folk can access piblic health services in NSW ie a reciprocal agreement?)

Yes. I figured that must have been the reason. I hope it's limited to those cases. And with the supervision etc.
Complete mess, noting the need for due process and the presumption of innocence at this stage of the matter.

It was a media whitewash of misinformation. And effective opposition counter 3 word slogans of fear.
Labor had no chance. Also, they got a bit too excited.
And now the appropriate, much needed, positive and progressive social policies he proposed are dead in the water.

Stunning bird but it's cooing is quite annoying, particularly piercing the quiet of a peaceful Sunday in the garden. On and on and on. And on.
And it wakes me up and, once I hear it, I can't stop hearing it.
WooOOOOOOOP, WooOOOOOOP. Rinse, repeat WooOOOOOOP, WooOOOOOOP*.

And I forgot to add....
.. dearest Jude, I do agree he should be talking to FC - and all others.
Perhaps the Labor chats had priority given the need to form govt and to leverage the chats to establish things for his own election commitments.
Your efforts wont be for nowt. I reckon a small dose of your soft diplomacy charm is all that will be needed to open up lines of communications. 😊

Sorry but I dont really see the issue rather it seems to be pragmatic and sensible. He has confirmed supply and delivered / advanced some of his election commitments. He is using influence as all would, I suspect.
He remains on cross bench and says he will work with all. We should give him - and the others - a chance.
Sorry but I don't agree he 'has' to work with other Independents 'just' because they are Independent.
I reckon they will all be negotiating and 'doing deals' at one point or other given the election outcome, so no need for outrage yet IMHO.
But thats just me.

What is the deal? He likely assessed he could get more done for those who voted for him by cooperating with elected others. I reckon being at the table is better than being outside throwing stones. 🙂
