in many cases, what financial support the state gave/gives to charities has also been cut, further hampering their work

unsurprisingly the article quotes a minister saying the current system isn't fit for purpose, but not acknowledging the cause, decades of intentional underfunding

I recall reading that the concept of 'sovereignty', as defined by the far right philosopher who popularised the term, was the power to suspend democracy... I forget who the philosopher was, but quoted by Paul Mason in 'How to defeat fascism' I think

how much power will be devolved from Westminster, and how much will be taken from existing local authorities? Cumbria has been divided into 2 unitary authorities, which for us, in the rural North Pennines, means we are governed by an authority based in Barrow in Furness, an industrial coastal town 60 miles away with which we have no historic connection; rather than a district council based in Penrith, a market town 16 miles away where many of us work and shop.

Do we need a technological solution? If skilled labour is required, train and pay skilled labourers. What's needed is a policy/economic decision to account for the loss of potentially reusable materials in the costings for building/demolition work, such that reuse becomes a financially viable option.
