All of my self-hosted digital infrastructure lives on my home server now, I shut down my cloud VPS

woman next to me at the library has a thinkpad that is old enough that it has a vga port

@npub1z8r…mrq6 do you have any recs for things to check out in montreal? I'll be there in a few weeks

Html day is going to be big this year. It would be cool if folks in smaller cities hosted one. Let me know if you have any q’s about hosting https://2026.html.energy/

Does anyone have any suggestions for photo sharing apps?

reading pokemon source code decompilations is really fun. I am enjoying C and assembly. I am doing much less coding lately, and only 'recreationally'

permacomputing meetup is tomorrow! https://alexwennerberg.com/permacomputing.html

I also have not tested it yet so idk if it works
this has been a blocker for doing advent of code in UF, since all the problems annoyingly seemed to require dealing with numbers larger than 32 bit !
my other thought was to do a 64 bit 'double double' but the stack stuff for that just seemed too weird

porting a forth library from 1996 to uf

2026-02-03 02:30:09 UTC

thinking about starting a permacomputing meetup in sf. any ideas for venues

Chuck Moore's principles for programming:
1. Keep it simple
2. Do not speculate [about future uses for bits of code]
3. Do it yourself

does anyone have any examples of substantial code written in UF forth? cc @npub1z8r…mrq6 [@snufkin_vc](https://mastodon.social/@snufkin_vc )

could someone remind me of the website of the person who used to make software and then got into experimenting with physical tools?

2025-05-29 02:28:55 UTC

what are some good forth resources for beginners? (aside starting forth). my friend is getting into it. something UF-based would be cool if it’s out there

2025-03-30 22:10:56 UTC

finished infinite jest

2025-03-12 22:06:08 UTC

thinking about the implications of this part of "worse is better":
"The design must be simple, both in implementation and interface. It is more important for the implementation to be simple than the interface. Simplicity is the most important consideration in a design"

2025-02-22 23:56:54 UTC

660 pages in to “infinite jest”

we make programming languages loosely resemble english language synax. Set X equal to 1. and then much effort is made to convert this into machine language. but the machine already speaks “stack”, why don’t we learn its language?

RRDTool does something interesting which I haven’t seen much elsewhere, which is a sort of postfix query language
rra:AVERAGE:0.5:5m:300h
I wonder how generalizable this would be. In psuedo-SQL you could do something like
1 ID = WHERE “users” FROM “username” SELECT

great talk!! I had to leave before I had a chance to say hi, but I've been doing hand written rss (technically atom) since @npub1z8r…mrq6 recommended it haha

anyone have any examples of substantial open source web applications written in chicken scheme?

redesigned https://alexw.nyc/ (made it worse)

does anyone have a summary of the work in the concatenative language discord? I'm interested in exploring some forth-derivatives (joy seems interesting?) but unsure where the most interesting places would be to start
