it seems some posts i starred in vega were actually stored as a public bookmark list. seems i need to sweep that a bit, since they weren't intended to be persistent endorsements. :02_blind:

armada says "encrypted community." which i presume means concord. there's like 2-4 ways to make "encrypted communities" on this protocol :blobfoxworried:

hot take you don't need an ML model for this. you can just do that with a linear solver.
or bubblesort. i did it once with bubblesort.

cybernetics is a funny field to study near game design and politics.

bruh. what is a bunker server

basically facing the problem that walled garden models like nostr moved to are hostile (there's nowhere to go for someone who "washes ashore")

things almost start to feel vaguely okay and then they don't all at once
they finally cared for the first time in 3 months about the bedroom because they had to sleep in my chair for a guest. and its like weekly job nag. (except its not even that, now its just "you need to be a disability slave" they've given up any pretext of caring.)

2026-10-27 08:20:48 UTC

if i did have hardware though i might see how much fun you can get LFMs to do things. (it might still be possible to unsloth them, on just cpu, but idk.)
cactus needle is. eh. a bit moaty. its quantization-aware trained and cut to 2-bits, but the version they give you is 4-bit.
have been wondering about synthetic datasets for some of that, but eh. probably need to just make the bench model for the weird shit i was doing first. then when that doesn't work we can all feel bad about it :02_ded:

2026-10-27 07:17:23 UTC

probably toss the game project through one final rewrite/pass over the design doc. then off to start doing mockups.
people are job nagging again.

> These results suggest that, in the on-device regime, most of the benefits attributed to recent hybrid SSM/linear-attention blocks can be captured by their short convolutional submodules plus a small number of global attention layers. We therefore carry forward designs that minimize global blocks while prioritizing inexpensive, gated short convolution blocks elsewhere. The released dense backbones (Section 2) and the sparse-FFN placement in LFM2-8B-A1B (Section 2) instantiate this recipe. Detailed speed and memory measurements appear in Section 2.4.
looks like the findings from liquid (and to a lesser extent cactus) AI companies is: transformer stacks don't win when cost is a metric. the stack instead convolves the soup and only spends attention on the last step.

i remember when people first said foldables would be great. i asked don't things break apart when you fold them back and forth a lot? and people went on many many words about "that's because of crystaline structures" and samsung claimed they tested thousands of folds and then
every one of these things breaks exactly like i said. :blobcatcomfysip:

vega is supposed to have its own internal strifry server but i haven't run it. wanted to see if the environment was pleasant enough to use before bothering to set up stuff like pyramid or whatever. so far its very hard to find actual people here.

> I dislike what some people commonly refer to as "UX", which is just pure status quo bias and survivorship bias.
The "its different so i hate it" effect is very real.
To an extent as designs are their own kind of grammar and language, as programming languages are, humans tend to adopt languages by cultural force more than anything. Its like the ribbon. People who were trained fresh on Office prototypes liked it, people who had ten years of experience with Word 98 hated it. Ribbons have some goof to them (they need to be customizable like toolbars used to be, and the layout of the buttons can get a little ridiculous), but one of the more famous examples of the whole "its different so i hate it" problem.
> Of course, Nostr also has other constraints, which are basically that the user has to be aware of keys and relays in some way or another, but because people are so deep into their status quo bias they refuse to see this as an interesting challenge and an opportunity for general enlightement, they prefer to try to hide it from themselves and from others,
I don't think common users are interested. They don't want interesting technical challenges. They want to push a button and receive bacon. Which is what Discord et all ultimately give them. It's been known for a while that even having to just download a client is already a massive barrier. On the Mumble and XMPP side we have that fight a lot; there's certain complexities guaranteed by "you have your own server" that "just trust the monolith" doesn't have, and normies overwhelmingly side with the monolith. For technical people puzzles can be interesting. Most people who aren't writing the software aren't interested and just want the phone to work.
The first part I can care about. Sometimes change is better or at least no worse. In many ways I want to *regress* UX, as the 90s style UIs had a lot more love and care behind them. Easily picked out borders, high accessibility color, customizable toolbars and sometimes automation aimed at "power users" (not just thrown a javascript kernel and told gg.) Who remembers when you could actually set what sound played when you received a message?
The second part, well, Steam and Netflix are huge testaments to how much "make the fee small and give a website with 2-3 clicks to receive bacon" are what people overwhelmingly select. Popcorn Time did something similar until getting nuked. It would be fairly ridiculous if one went to a hospital and the doctors told you that you should just pick up some study of medicine as a fun puzzle when asking for a consultation.

2026-10-25 19:04:34 UTC

tech-wise could be interesting to see pijul's patch logic used for diffing articles. patches commute, so order of commits doesn't matter, and you could in theory retrieve checkpoints via blossom. (though this is basically overlapping with how git works, so, idk.)

the big providers are concerned about model collapse (real data -> stolen to make AI -> enclosured to "we own the output of what we stole" -> people post enclosured AI slop in the wild -> next round of models end up stealing their own output) so, probably, at least internal to those companies they are watermarking output and consider AI output poisoned.
