Bullshit. Harm reduction is an active process, not wishful thinking. Write-in/third party/not voting are all ways to feel ethically superior while actually NOT doing harm reduction.

Anyone in the #charlottesville area able to recommend a roofer for repairs, not replacement? We have several spots that the rain has just revealed.

If your homegrown corn turns out to be waxy, tough, and tasteless after thorough cooking, was it actually meal corn not sweet corn?
I know it isn’t feed corn. Didn’t plant any.

Biggest harvest yet! The old saying is “when it’s ripe, it’s gone.” And some sort of rodent almost proved it right today. Still these were about ten pounds in total before slicing. Best cantaloupe crop I’ve ever had, and all from a store melon seed.

We cut the melon for lunch today, and the flesh is firmer than I would have liked, but it has a nice subtle flavor. I thought it would be sweeter. Definitely NOT a Hami melon though. Standard cantaloupe.

My best and most exciting #garden harvest day so far! Been watching this melon very carefully, and testing it today, it separated from the stem with hardly a tug. That’s how you know it’s perfect for picking.
Looking at the color of it, I think it may be from a saved “Hami Golden Melon” bought at Costco, though I had it labeled as “generic cantaloupe” from some other grocery store.

That's Apiomerus, a Bee Assassin happily assassinating a Japanese beetle. A happy sign my #garden is coming into some sort of balance. Though it does mean I have to be extra careful spraying neem oil on my plum tree to suppress the invasive beetles.
Not many native predators for the invasive beetles.

Any help identifying this mystery shrub that maybe volunteered in my garden? Apple’s plant ID has called it everything from nightshade to buttonbush. It’s quite large, perhaps 8 feet tall by 10 feet wide, but not bushy. And for scale, that biggest leaf is about 10 inches long. Zone 7A

#CentralVA #gardening enthusiasts: what else should I look for at today’s native plant sale to put in a deer infested area? Mountain Mint is on the list.
I’m well aware of typical cultivars that deer hate. Interested in ones that I may not know that are native. Bonus if they’re drought resistant.

Frighteningly lovely February day today, with highs around 60°F.
Jumping in to start hundreds of seeds: carrots, leaf broccoli, snow peas, rattlesnake pole beans, red swan beans, some mystery green only called "bright rainbow".
All in pots to start, since we're getting a freeze next week. Maybe.

I would buy this tomorrow:
° Electric CAR (not an SUV or truck)
° Vehicle to Grid or Vehicle to Home capable
° Eligible for the US Tax Credit
° At least 220 Mile range
° Under $65k
° Not a fucking Tesla because fuck fElon.
Far as I know, #electricvehicles with this combination don’t exist in the US market.
Am I wrong? Closest is the gigantic Ford Lightning, way too much vehicle for me.

Tim Walz stole a great line from The West Wing and made it his own:
“But that’s not these guys. Trump and Vance, when they talk about freedom, means government should have the freedom to invade every corner of our life. They talk about small government, small enough to be in your bedroom, small enough to be in your exam room, small enough to be in your library, telling you the things you should make decisions about.”
