“pandoc for the people”, the pandoc wasm web-app, is now available at https://pandoc.org/app/
It allows to run any kind of document conversion that pandoc supports in the browser. The documents never leave the computer, thus ensuring *full privacy*.
Conversions to pdf are done via Typst.

Question to librarians: is the PDF "trailer id", intended to identify documents and revisions, used in your work with PDFs? If so, how? Or is that a feature that is mostly ignored and/or unusable for various reasons?
Asking, as we found that pandoc needs to generate these IDs for certain use-cases, and we want to get it right.

@npub1kgk…7py7 created a custom writer to output Scribus `.sla` documents.

Scribus is an open source, desktop publishing application, see https://www.scribus.net. The exporter is also available as a Scribus plugin.

Massimiliano Farinella wrote #pundok, a visual #editor for #pandoc. The editor is based on pandoc's internal format, so no information is lost when transferring the documents to pandoc for further processing.
The editor is written using #ProseMirror and #Tiptap; it can be included in web pages or be run standalone (via Electron).

Pandoc is written in #Haskell (https://haskell.org), an advanced, purely functional programming language. It was chosen for its great parser support, which was ahead of its time when pandoc was born in 2006. The language is also uniquely suited for a long-lived project, as the strong typing helps tremendously to keep things maintainable.

Do you know of a tool, a website, plugin, etc. that uses #pandoc? Please share, it would be interesting to learn more about how pandoc is used “in the wild”.

Three methods to add a #comment to #pandoc #Markdown texts:
1.

2.
---
# YAML block with comment.
# Always removed.
---
3.
``` {=comment}
Creative use of raw blocks.
Included in md output, dropped everywhere else.
GNU troff is a powerful yet lesser-known #typesetting system that can serve as an alternative to LaTeX. It is much faster and a good choice when performance is important. Use it by specifying `--pdf-engine=pdfroff` or `--to=ms` when converting to #PDF.
