then again, i dont think glm 5.3 is a particularly useful model, while 5.3 flash very much is
so mainly hoping that le chonk is a good base for future flash versions

2026-10-29 14:56:37 UTC

- reply

i think the few percentage points diff on most benchmarks does not really matter much either way, beyond that le chonk is indeed in the same place as glm 5.3 and kimi 3.1.
think its bigger that they are there in half the price vs glm 5.3 (2.1e mtok out vs 4.4e)

as usual, the majority of people who think they are pro decentralisation are just pro centralisation but with them in charge instead

2026-10-29 14:26:14 UTC

- reply

istg the amount of people who think decentralised networks means 'centralised platform but with MY values and cultures' is driving me insane

2026-10-29 14:25:31 UTC

the defining characteristic of decentralised open social networks is that the majority of service providers will be strictly regulatory compliant. complaining about a large provider being ultra cautious is stupid, the only real question is if there are enough alternative providers

2026-10-29 12:15:23 UTC

code being plentiful is very much not the same as software contributing to societal goods ofc
but the value shifts much more towards the social organisation around software than the lines of code itself
and nlnet was already notorious for struggling with the social side of software

2026-10-29 12:13:26 UTC

- reply

i sympathise with the reviewers, but i also sympathise even more with nlnet for the emotional turmoil that LLM coding reshuffle some of the deepest assumption that underlie the organisation
they give money to people to make code because code is scarce. and now code is not scarce

my problem with this sort of 'proactivity' in models is it conflicts pretty hard with workflows that involve creating a plan first, and that trips the models up constantly as a result

that said, what X is in public zeitgeist is determined by how media elite perceive it, not what X actually is, so in that sense posts that are false can still instantiate a shift in cultural perception, thereby making it 'true'

the only real value in post like Gruber's is that he's remarkably dull as a commentator? agreeing or disagreeing with his statements is not meaningful, because Grubers statements are not meaningful: he consistently interprets what he sees on his timeline as a representative of the entire network

I don’t see the eu having the guts to directly condemn the us for this, so platforms that do allow the content (or just don’t take it down effectively enough, which you can always find an example of if you want to) are a reasonable proxy

2026-10-09 08:57:52 UTC

What’s perversely fascinating about the planned execution livestream is that this will likely turn into a political proxy fight between us and eu via platform content moderation imo
Which platform is gonna stream this, and which platform will allow (partial? Edited?) clips of it?

like forget discussions about 'its hard to explain to regular people', im a poweruser and i dont have the faintest idea what is going on or even how to use this

i keep being impressed by how incredibly broken passkeys are.
the passkeys are in my vault, the vault is unlocked, its for the right browser, has the right extension, but if the website cant access those for whatever reason, youre just stuck with no way to progress and locked out of your account

As usual, the people currently most supportive of decentralisation will turn out to hate it the most once they figure out what that actually means

2026-09-16 09:50:28 UTC

That the EU is the government most supportive of open social network makes [@vonderleyen.ec.europa.eu@bsky.brid.gy](https://bsky.brid.gy/ap/did:plc:wr6esgkuixhvsge3ueraz6yb ) announcement that the EU will do a continent-wide ban on social media for 15- children very funny

this isnt bad per se, it just means that you need proper governance for the aggregator systems

2026-09-15 09:21:50 UTC

decentralisation moves the centralisation one layer up, as it ever does
i do agree with these recommendations tho

Working remotely from Skopje for a week. If you don't have meetings to go to, why not go to Macedonia instead?

in general the current trajectory for the eu for tech sovereignty is extremely bleak, but if there is one thing that could make the situation meaningfully better is the us banned open source models. like, yes please actually

2026-09-13 17:01:10 UTC

this is probably the funniest outcome imaginable, that the US having closed frontier models and banned open source models while the EU has no own frontier models but access to open source models

viewing frontier+ models as state capabilities is a major part why it is so incredibly bleak that mistral got out of the frontier race

i think all publicly released models will end up being open by default
the money for labs is in netsec and related state-level stuff, which demand these frontier+ models are private
this is a competitive arms race, so when your frontier+ model becomes regular frontier, open it to create pressure

my default expectation is that this is fundamentally natsec tech where whats publicly available will become both open by default but also around 2 gens behind what is available to a select group of state actors
