I am a Humanitarian, Software Architect/ Developer, Philosopher, Mathematician, Poet and love chess. Though I am not that good at chess I love to play. Most importantly, I am me, it would be nice if you could be you.

Rogue Project's Friendica is free to all that respect the TOS & Rules. I expect no payment for this service. If however you are inclined to make a contribution I appreciate it. *Please, do not give money you do not have to spare. I can afford the costs of maintaining the instance without any contributions.*

[p]What tools are you using? Is this during your login? There is so much you are not sharing. I am not sure where to begin?[/p][p] Linux Unified Key Setup (LUKS) is the standard for modern disk encryption. There are many tools that use LUKS.[/p][p]LUKS does not have direct, standalone kernel support for its on-disk header format specification; instead, it is implemented as a hybrid system combining user-space management and kernel-level drivers.[/p][p]How the Division Works[/p]
[ul]
[li]User-Space (cryptsetup): The LUKS specification, its metadata headers, keyslot management (passwords, Argon2/PBKDF2 derivations), and interactive prompts are handled entirely by user-space tools like cryptsetup.[/li]
[li]Kernel-Space (dm-crypt): Once cryptsetup decrypts or validates the master key using your passphrase, it hands that operational master key over to the Linux kernel's Device Mapper subsystem (dm-crypt). The actual data encryption and decryption read/write operations on the block device are processed transparently and efficiently inside the kernel.[/li]
[/ul]
[p]Because LUKS is a standard not an implementation I am not certain what your issue with it is? If the tool you are using does not allow you to preview your password, and many do not for security reasons, then what you can do is type your passwords into a gedit (or your favorite editor) session and then copy and paste it to the fields. If the problem is at boot time itself then you could avoid whole disk encryption and just encrypt a partition that has your sensitive data so you can avoid entering a password at boot. I could give a better answer if I knew what you were talking about specifically?[/p]
