#PNWZone was impacted by the #Cloudflare outage between 5:05am and 6:30am PT today. Our servers quickly caught up on the backlog of posts that were queued up during the outage and all systems appear to be operating normally now.

2025-11-09 16:46:12 UTC

Ok. Claude helped me determine that 3 out the 64 4.4 DB migrations scripts were not completed in July (had no impact - just left some cruft in the DB that prevented the 4.5 DB migration scripts from running). Those are now cleaned up and I'll be starting the 4.5.0 migration now. No downtime is anticipated. #PNWZone

2025-11-09 15:45:24 UTC

- reply

I've finished patching the backend servers, but the actual Mastodon 4.5.0 upgrade is running into a couple issues, so we're up and running fine with 4.4.8 for the time being. I'll continue to debug the 4.5.0 migration scripts. #PNWZone

Reminder! Tomorrow's #PNWZone maintenance starts at 6am PT tomorrow. We'll be doing some server upgrades at the same time as the Mastodon 4.5 upgrade, so we could be offline for until 8am or so.

I'm excited to bring a some awesome new features to #PNWZone in the next month or so. The Mastodon Engineering team is close to releasing version 4.5 with many updates, but the most notable being quote posts and automated fetching of remote replies. The auto fetching which will close one of the major gaps for smaller instances like ours where it feels like we're not seeing the whole thread (because we weren't).

Thanks so much for all those that have donated as well as inquired about the finances of #PNWZone. To share some stats... From Nov-Jan, we averaged $86/month in donations. Our expenses are about $300/month. We currently have about 220 monthly active users. If 50% of folks gave just $3/month then we'd be good to cover costs with and build a small reserve. No obligation if your not able to, but if you have the means, the US tax-deductible donation page is at https://hcb.hackclub.com/donations/start/pnw-zone
