I think there are a lot of potential problems here if it is physically accurate 🤔😅

There is currently never any greater good. That's how capitalism works, it always suboptimizes for a local maximum. Usually as local as a single company...

It is #BandcampFriday
Today, musicians get to keep all of the revenue from sales.
Buy a track or an album from your favorite independent artist. If that's me, that's super cool. If it's someone else, that's super cool as well.

Counting the tokens I've spent (including rejected pitches) vs the number of streams generated it's about a 10th of the price of Instagram ads for instance.
And I haven't had a lot of results trying to generate streams myself, with social media promotion, reaching out to media etc.
So, it's not for everyone, and feedback can be harsh (although for me it's been mostly helpul), but for me it's the best promotion channel so far.

Submithub? You pay €1-€4 for the opportunity to pitch a song to a playlist owner. The curators on submithub are individuals who have their own playlists with a lot of subscribers. No placement guaranteed.
You really need to do your homework, in particular when it comes to find good matches for your songs. You also need to set yourself up for some quite brutal feedback.
This aside, for me it's been a great place for promotion.

When I first promoted this song on Submithub, I got the feedback that I should have filtered the bass more. My first reaction was that it was just a petty reason to not accept the song into a playlist, but when I listened to the song again I could hear it. And that has just gotten worse over time, to the point where I haven't wanted to promote it. So now I fixed it. Submithub feedback can be brutal but can also help you grow.

Returning to this after a couple of months, I'm so happy with it. Both the song, and the video that I made in #blender

Swedish defense recommends using Signal, to secure communication.
Swedish parliament is trying to pass a bill where Signal and other e2e encrypted services are forced to provide backdoors for law enforcement.
One of these organizations knows what it's doing.

Damn, new Dream Theater album slaps. Haven't said that in many, many DT albums.

Otroligt bra!

The sad part is that the loudness war hasn't completely gone away. In a perfect world dynamics would be valued, but in practice your song will shrink into the background if it's clearly quieter than others in a playlist.
Spotify will normalize to -14 dB, but not always. Users can turn off normalization in the app and the web player never normalizes. Popular songs by Taylor Swift etc can be at -6 😮. My latest uploads have been around -8.5 dB.

The production advise was quite specific to the songs I was working on. But general things are to use reference tracks a lot more. I also ended up replacing my old monitors, that led to a lot better quality. Also not to care about the recommended -14 db lufs recommendation from streaming services.

Looking back on 2024 I must say it was one of the best years in a long long time.
* I released an EP And a couple of singles. My most productive year to date
* I unexpectedly got so much help - basically a whole mentorship - in both levelling up my production and understanding the playlist ecosystem from @midnightfury (you da goat man!)
* Made so many on social media!
* I started learning 3D graphics to make my own music videos. Finally got the hang of Blender after a lot of failed tries.

So, Threads is going to be another nazi infected X it seems. Not surprised, but I'm going to miss it. Threads has managed to create an algorithm that actually promotes interaction over exposure.
I sadly don't feel Mastodon is doing that for me... Don't know why, am I not interacting enough? Is your Mastodon a healthy community with lots of interaction?

How timely to get a sore throat the moment I finally have the time to track some growl on a song. (and no, that will not make it better - just painful and dangerous).

It's so bad even neutral is listed as green. Greetings from Sweden. Our politicians are idiots, doesn't matter which party you vote for. All of the ones who are large enough to make a difference are in favor.
