light refracts towards denser air (downwards)...ever tried to spear something underwater, or looked at a canoe paddle in the water? Same effect, denser fluid bends light downward.

You can never prove a theory, only disprove it.
The map is not the territory, no matter how detailed.
If your mental model of reality helps you do what you need to do, and doesn't hinder you, it serves its purpose.
My dog perceives me sitting at a table staring blankly at a rectangular black thing, making soft noises with my hands...he has no idea I am communicating abstractions to another human, thousands of miles away, using electromagnetic radiation. He doesn't know what an abstract thought is, much less computers or telecommunication. I could try to make him understand, but even if he did have just a tiny bit of understanding, it doesn't really change life for him.
The mind cannot perceive 100% reality or 100% truth, we have to abstract it down to something we can understand...but there is always something more.

agree, but "spend your life serving her" could be misleading to young men caught in the current hyper-feminized culture
"build a framework of security and order so that she can thrive" is a more direct way to word it - don't cater to her whims, build a solid frame of order that will make her feel secure and allow her to be soft
