alibaba. I don't remember what I paid I just know it was like 10x lithium or nickelcadmium

Interesting. I use wind and NiFe batteries. NiFe have some cold weather properties that are particularly useful, and longer lifetimes than the more typical batteries used today, but they're so expensive...

Yeah, fuel is the bottleneck for sure. I think biodiesel or just straight up vegetable oil is a more viable alternative, but an ethanol based ICE is feasible. Motor oil will be made out of castor oil, like it was in the past before synthetics. I just think biodiesel will be easier to manufacture, even if its 10x the cost of petroleum based diesel, but you could be right that it will be more expensive to source fuel for an ICE than parts for an electric.
The scenario I'm thinking of is more like: manufacturing still exists, but its so tightly controlled by the feds that its impossible to get functional vehicles from the factory. Which is kind of how I think of the modern scenario I find myself in. Modern vehicles are shit that cost more than your house and are "totalled" after 5 years of service because some expensive and irreplacable component failed.
In a post-apocalyptic scenario we'll probably be driving cars than run on wood fuel.

It's easier to machine a chunk of cast iron into a cude piston rather than to wind copper at a near-microscopic level. I think just based on that alone you will never be able to price or availability compete on drivetrain components. Besides which, those electric vehicle componenets are going to be recycled for their copper and ruin the used / salvage parts market.

Yeah I don't think gas is getting any cheaper. I think the oil and derivatives market is completely fucked and is going to take years or decades to recover. Could even all be a part of the agenda 2030 to remove your freedom of movement, so it might never get better.

This but unironically. The dogwater "art"style that was pervasivley infusing all corporate art was disgusting and soul-killing. Greedy corpors are not making inspiring art not because they care about the art itself, but just because its cheaper than paying "artists".
