AI slop forthcoming, but Steve Lee mentioned on the PBJ podcast that Bitkey is set up in a way that you don't need to trust that the software wasn't tampered with.
Frostsnap uses the phone on key generation so you have hardware diversity in your setup. You don't rely entirely on their hardware (same at Bitkey I believe).
Yes, Bitkey employs multiple layers of hardware tampering mitigation, including anti-tamper technology within its secure microcontroller that renders the device inoperable if physically opened or modified.
The device utilizes a Physical Unclonable Function (PUF) to encrypt critical keys when powered off and make them usable only when powered on, ensuring no data is exposed during physical attacks. Additionally, each chip contains a unique secret key that prevents counterfeit or maliciously modified devices from interacting with the Bitkey app, while a secure boot process ensures only signed firmware can run. To address supply chain risks, the system verifies device authenticity via cryptographic fingerprints, though it notably lacks traditional tamper-evident packaging like holographic seals

Why?

- reply

I think because you always have the same reliable buyer(Bitcoin Network) Hashrate can't be be distorted by things like embargoes or sanctions. This may be a bad example, but what would the price of oil within Iran signal l vs the price in the US? It's tow very different signals. For Iranians oil is cheap, for the rest of us it's expensive.
Which makes me think that Iran should probably start "exporting" oil in the form of sats(Hashrate)

2026-10-16 02:18:54 UTC

- reply

Yeah true, but there is basically no friction in Hashrate, whereas oil has transportation costs, refinement variables etc.

True, but there are privacy concerns that can't be addressed any other way. If you want to ask Identity sensitive questions about taxes or business details that you don't want someone else gaining access to it seems like local inference is the way.
