Microsoft offers 60,000 employees a voluntary exit 😱 The AI affecting is real in IT sector. This is company’s efforts to cut costs amid AI adoption, per Bloomberg. Personnel on select teams in the US, Canada, India, and the UK at a vice president level and below will be eligible. AI ‘godfather’ Yann LeCun has ‘zero concerns’ about human extinction and thinks Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei is ‘deluded’ and ‘crazy’. Yann LeCun dismisses fears of AI extinction and recent hacks at OpenAI and Anthropic, arguing that security breaches comes from poor system design, leaky sandboxes, and a lack of basic cybersecurity in AI labs, not out-of-control AI. These AI are doing as told by these AI labs

For those who use Apple's private email forwarding service: iCloud+ Hide My Email addresses will remain on icloud {dot} com. This is a big stuff for users as private email relays often get blocked, the only lasting solution is to put them on the same domain as and in the same format as, a significant number of non private email addresses.

Firefox is now the last known major browser that still supports uBlock Origin Ad blocker. Everyone including Microsoft Edge, Google and other Chromium browsers phase it out under Manifest V3. Firefox is also the only browser that check and ensure uBlock's code on every update to make sure the devs (or comprised repos) hasn't inserted spyware or malware into the extension code. Google Chrome silently installs a 4 GB AI model on your device https://www.thatprivacyguy.com/blog/chrome-silent-nano-install/

That is the true definition of malware.

Intel pull out of Germany, Poland, and Costa Rica as new CEO shrinks the company by a third. They are firing 24000 employees this year 😱 https://www.theverge.com/news/713388/intel-q2-2025-leave-germany-poland-costa-rica I am not sure if we will see any Intel production in next 10 years and eventually open source oses like Linux or BSD will drop support too if they go completely out of business.

Haha, that's one way to deal with it. I'm not sure how effective it is, though.

So let me get this straight: First, it was Elon. Now, it is Mark. Two guys are removing all moderation rules on social media. And are people asking another billionaire to build alternative social media? Do you even hear yourself? That is not going to fix anything. Maybe we should go back to the days of blogs, mailing lists, individual forums, and RSS feeds and end this madness of centralized social media apart from the federation. I’m just saying

Say you have a 26-year-old codebase of around 10,000 lines of C (a CLI app for Unix/Linux and no special hardware access or related to device drivers etc). It still works, but the code is messy because you were less experienced at that time. Now it's time to rewrite it from scratch. What language would you choose? Go? Rust? Python?

Remember Microsoft's Recall? The first implementation was never released and was met with strong criticism from privacy advocates and the infosec/security community. Guess what? Microsoft has doubled down, and its controversial Recall scraper is finally entering the public preview stage. If you care about privacy, please think twice before using this on your AI-enabled PCs (Snapdragon-powered Copilot+ PCs) https://blogs.windows.com/windows-insider/2024/11/22/previewing-recall-with-click-to-do-on-copilot-pcs-with-windows-insiders-in-the-dev-channel/
