Hi Michael, yeah its just a (low) barrier to prevent someone from spinning up a thousand wallets and squatting all the good custom names.
It's a "proof of work" in a way.

If you're seeing this as a US customer, you just need to go to:
Settings -> Switch to Self Custody mode
New US WoS customers will automatically go into the self-custody wallet, and won't see this.
You may be seeing this mode because we allow US customers who had a previous custodial wallet to send out any Bitcoin that may still be there.

👋🏻 Hey!
Some of our iOS TestFlight users have noticed their test versions recently expired.
Not to worry - Last year we just had to move Apple Developer Accounts. The migration process was not great (isn't this the biggest company in the world?) so all TestFlight users get dropped.
Feel free to join the new TestFlight using this link https://testflight.apple.com/join/X3cCtNe1 if you enjoy being on the bleeding edge.
Latest version uses a better Scanning Engine under the hood so we'd love to know if it helps anyone have more consistent QR reads. 🧡

2024-01-17 06:38:35 UTC

Some stats since silently launching our simple referral program just a couple of months ago...
🎉3,174 rewards paid so far, a total of 3,283,942 sats.
⚡️1,035 sats average reward size.
🧡Average 'Orange Pill' send amount was 62,000 sats.
#Bitcoiners are generous!
Introduce someone to WoS and send them their first sat – it's that simple! Your rewards grow as they do! 🌱💰

Finally, iOS users will also see the new branding and a host of other features and bug fixes. 🥳🥂
Side note: It does feel like something has noticeably changed at Apple when it comes to Bitcoin-related Apps.
Every update for the last 6+ months has undergone excessive, and often uninformed, scrutiny.
I wonder if our peers have also noticed this?

👉It seems #satvertising is catching on; trying a simple filter for small historical payments.

To our valued Wallet of Satoshi community in the United States of America,
We've dedicated ourselves to providing the best Bitcoin experience with Wallet of Satoshi, being at the forefront of Lightning usability and adoption. However, we've made the difficult decision to remove our app from the U.S. Apple and Google app stores, and will not serve U.S. customers going forward.
This decision doesn't come lightly. Our commitment to providing a secure, user-friendly, and compliant platform globally is unwavering. Our top priority is the safety and interests of our customers and our company.
We understand this may be disappointing news and we share your frustration. We're hopeful that future developments will allow us to revisit and possibly resume our operations in the U.S.
For our existing users in the USA, rest assured that you have full access to your Bitcoin funds. You can seamlessly withdraw and transfer them to another wallet.
We deeply appreciate your support and understanding. We remain committed to bringing the benefits of Bitcoin to as many as possible.
Stay tuned for updates, and thank you for being a part of our community.
Peace, Love and Bitcoin,
The Wallet of Satoshi Team 🧡

No, we don't make anything out of this.
If an advertiser can find your lightning address - they can send you money! Just like anyone else.

2023-11-16 05:54:52 UTC

Many have noticed a sharp increase in paid Lightning spam lately.
Opinion is divided - some love the free sats, some hate the constant notifications and spammy messages. In any case it's an interesting development in the ecosystem! ⚡️
We have just implemented a change on our server to detect payments that are likely spam. You'll still get the sats and can look at the messages in your payment history if you want, but this should help minimise unwanted system notifications starting now! 🙏

2023-11-16 05:09:46 UTC

- reply

Yes that seems like a good idea, it's coming. Apple dramatically slows down the speed of app changes we can push though unfortunately, sorry to Android users

2023-11-16 05:06:07 UTC

- reply

We're doing a couple of things - but hiding messages below 100 sats might be a little overkill... we don't want to prevent any valid use-cases.
We've just rolled out a change though so that at least you won't get system notifications for payments that are low value and likely advertising - that seems to be the biggest annoyance at the moment.

We have thoroughly investigated the claim and can confirm that our email database has not been compromised.
For those who are concerned, we recommend checking your email addresses on 'Have I Been Pwned'—if you trust that platform.
As Bitcoiners, our system is intentionally designed to collect minimal personal information. Providing an email is optional and is primarily used for account backup or to obtain a custom lightning address.
We always prioritize the security and privacy of our users and continuously monitor our systems to guard against any potential threats.

2023-09-14 09:23:03 UTC

- reply

Yes - your old generated address will continue to work!
The only time you'll lose a lightning address is if you give up a 'custom' address to get a different 'custom' address.

2023-09-14 09:21:02 UTC

That must be an on-chain Bitcoin transaction. Wallet of Satoshi supports both Lightning and On-Chain.

✅ Lightning Transactions: 50 -> 10
✅ BTC On-chain Volume: 0.01 -> 0.001
This should open the opportunity up for thousands more to claim their _______@walletofsatoshi.com instantly! Tap Receive -> Customize in your WoS App to try it.
For context, currently around 1% of our monthly active users have claimed a custom address, so it is an elite group!🏅

2. Unsolicited commercial advertising over lightning
It seems inevitable that lightning addresses will be scraped and compiled and used to send unsolicited messages (with a payment attached).
What are your thoughts about this? How should it be managed? What are the benefits/downsides?
