FYI - Villa Vie Odyssee (a residential cruise ship) has quit sailing
https://supercarblondie.com/hawaii-couple-cruise-ship-leave-suddenly/
The ship has kicked off all of the passengers in Cambodia. Says that fuel costs exploded from $1800 / cabin / month to $6K to $8k. They won't pass the increased costs onto passengers.
This couple at least got two years of sailing, 60 countries, and 200 ports.
I was looking into that ship a few years ago when announced. Thought it was novel but not for me.

From the "Manhattan Contrarian"
https://www.manhattancontrarian.com/blog/2026-10-23-ideologues-try-their-hand-at-ordering-up-an-electrical-grid-powered-only-by-renewables
Taking another look at the Spanish island of El Hierro. With 11K residents, it has the goal of 100% wind power to generate electricity. Yeah, it has 11.5MW of windmills for a load of about 5MW. Yeah, it has a water storage system to capture excess power.
But the wind power was good for
- 2019 54%
- 2020, 42%
- 2021, 48%
- 2022, 48%
- 2023, 35%
- 2024 45%
- 2025, 44%
A diesel generator does the rest. Suggests they need 40x power storage.
