I'm writing XPRS for off-grid conversations without internet

50 XPRS stations to be offered during the SemRede festival in Coimbra. These stations use NOSTR for messages and identity, albeit slightly reduced in size per message because each byte matters when transmitting on radio and satellites.

Software nowadays is like a religion.
Because software is no longer about quality nor efficiency. The only metric for what it means "success" today is popularity.
Therefore you need followers and believers so that it can succeed.

MinerFan is a one-click miner for Monero, works on Linux, Windows and Android: https://x1watt.github.io/minerfan/
It has smart mode to balance mining during the idle times of the computer.

Since its inception. The founder worked for Twitter (a company that has little worries about user privacy) and the first group placing money on Signal was Radio Free Asia (literally an CIA-front).
The founder was a surfer, so when writing the algorithm he figured that it would be a great idea to invite a bunch of skinny geeks to Hawaii and develop an algorithm there while they surf. Do you know what else is based in Hawaii, the NSA HQ for code breaking algorithms. btw, also the place where Snowden worked for quite a while.
Want to know what happened in Hawaii, good luck. Those attending had to sign NDA and won't be specific about their stay there.
The algorithm is ready, this is a virtually unknown algorithm from what is little more than a startup with about zero outside users. Do you know who liked it? Whatapp (another company notorious for sharing data with govs) that adopted it immediately for 1 billion users worldwide, an algorithm fresh out of the forge without much real world validation (kind of sus, right).
Don't worry, over the years enough employees leaked that the company can indeed read those "encrypted" messages with the Signal algorithm after all.
When that is not enough, Signal itself costs tens of million USD to run per year. Guess who is still banking those costs? Yeah, tax payer money. This is verifiable online, just take your time to research by yourself.
Then there are years of battles against other messengers but strangely Signal is rarely (never) attacked and yet promoted by usage from both government officials, leftist groups and enough Hollywood movies to make you think why anyone ever recommend a messenger tied to a phone number.
The better question is:
"What part from signal is NOT compromised?"

We are organizing a decentralized and offgrid week in Coimbra, Portugal this October. Topics are what you expect where NOSTR, XMR and many other projects by friends and foes will be present.
We need a short and name, any ideas?

There is no freedom without privacy, that is why governments can easily punish anyone using that fedcoin for the "wrong" causes. Plus that anyone can see how much money you have in your wallet, only idiots are fooled into that mess.
Monero fixes that.

Yeah, it is a waste of time to get envolved with casino coins unless you feel like playing slot machines.
Really enjoyed projects like SIGNA because of the storage based mining approach and BEAM because they are like ETH but with monero privacy on top. They also had great bots on telegram to send money between friends without external tools nor trouble.
Interesting projects are rare.

I'm writing that tooling as we speak inside the new iteration of geogram that will be made available within a week or so.
Each device connected to the network (Android, Windows, Linux, etc) finds other devices that advertise themselves as NOSTR relays inside reticulum.
Normally when you have +1000 users hosting their own relays this would mean 1000 users repeating asking 1000 other devices for updates and the battery on those with phones would quickly drain. So the option here is to have self-nominated indexers.
An indexer device is plugged to electricity from a home wifi (fast net access without limits, any old Android is OK) that answers questions from users: "where can I find notes from npubXYZ?"
It is the job of those indexers to receive info from +1000 users about what they are willing to share and then to answer which devices have what a user is asking to see (e.g. recent posts from a list of authors).
Indexers can self-nominate (each person can volunteer their hardware for that) and they synchronize with other indexers because it is faster and avoids bothering the smaller devices. When an indexer goes offline, just find another still alive with a good uptime and ask there.
There is a bit more to indexers than what I write here because they also have rules about what to keep (reduce spam) and people shouldn't see an indexer as a large disk drive. Indexers only give answers where content can be found but don't store it on their own disk, which means that users themselves are responsible for data duplication and survival.
When you care for an author on NOSTR, then it is your decision to keep data published by the author on your devices. This way you keep alive what matters to you and carry it on your pocket to use/read when needed. Blossom server is included on the package, so you keep his binary files (e.g. movies, photos) too.
There are many things to improve until a stable is ready, just follow the posts and you should see when it comes out. An interesting aspect is merging both NOSTR running inside reticulum with NOSTR relays available from normal internet connections. When you connect with your usual account you should be able to keep interacting here on normal internet but also share the same posts to reticulum relays (including your own device) and continue as usual even after all the major relays being used right now are gone.

Screw graphene and tor, those are state-sponsored spyware.
Wisp shouldn't really endorse them when getting serious about privacy.

Good, please do take all the vaccinated and fedcoin users away to your fenced garden after they pass the phone number verification.
They shan't be missed.

Arrived to my house a recent Heltec LoRa ESP32 to match the model that @nprofile…4dhc is using.
Pretty soon we should have a good firmware ready for LoRa, WiFi and BLE integration on geogram.

3 hours of how Elon Musk sees the future in the next 3 years: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BYXbuik3dgA
After seeing it, got a very bitter feeling if he either pushing for humanity advancement or destruction. In case he succeeds, we might be one of the last generations that enjoyed humanity as the species on the top.
TLDR: Humans become chimpanzees inside a universe ruled by bots ruling from space (literally skynet).

We'll use geogram by then: https://github.com/geograms/central
Your phone becomes your (private) cloud. Can connect using Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, radios or even satellites.
Should become generally available by March, powered by NOSTR of course.

I've never had an issue transferring monero either on large nor small amounts but there is a cost of time.
I guess the bigger rational for LN are immediate payments for small things.
Anything bigger is certainly safer done with monero.

It isn't a conclusion, it is a comparison.
Signal is not the best mainstream option, because it was never really adopted by mainstream despite being promoted by western governments and left-wing groups, lest not forget it appears plenty even on holywood movies.
Still, Telegram has defacto been the best mainstream option without any of that. It is the non-acceptable option by western governments and yet used so often by the "mainstream" that they had to arrest the founder.
SimpleX is similar garbage to both signal and telegram. There is ZERO benefit in repeating the same mistakes of the past. SimpleX is a small russian company, that now received western funding. There is only ONE client implementation and ONE server provided by default by the same company for "free". In other words, they can easily disable any encryption for the "special" people as done for other options. You can't really verify and your messages aren't decrypted at their servers because you can't even guarantee they haven't stolen your private keys (tip, they are stored locally).
NOSTR is the future.
Hundreds of relays across the globe run by volunteers, dozen and dozens of client implementations and verifiable battle-proven cryptography that govs have a bad day trying to decrypt.
That is the reason why I'm here.
