"its utility is too great for me to take a principled stance" is a more disturbing sentence than the author realises. It's such an "exploitation instinct".

I think the reason to do this is... it's cheaper. Slice off the spine and you can feed all the loose pages through a machine.

The bigger your to-be-read pile is, the less chance there is for the book to be snatched by a political ban or an AI ingest-and-pulp deathbot.
Hoarding unread books is resistance.
Future historians will thank us.

feels like an ancient proverb... the most expensive thing you'll ever receive is something you get for free.

I believe if you set Cloudflare to "under attack mode" it triggers bot checks for everyone. I think there's also a setting to switch this on full time even if you're not under attack.

There's a vibe coding thread where developers are having an epiphany: maybe they should keep old versions of their code around, just in case their latest inspired hack turns everything into digital spaghetti.
Congratulations—they've just discovered their first professional software delivery practice: Version control. That's from 1972.
Next week, they'll revolutionize development by inventing "testing" after their app crashes in production. Again.

yeah, announcing that "this meeting is a psychologically safe space for everyone to share..." is the top indicator it isn't. If you have it, you don't talk about it so much.

in v0.8 the Array<T> didn't exist. I think generics were added in v0.9!

you can use the shorthand `number[]` or `Array<number>` and they mean the same thing. The same goes for read only arrays:
readonly number[]
ReadonlyArray<number>
The docs describe the shorthand version as a "nicer syntax". It's certainly more space efficient.

I once worked on an OCR project, and the execs never grasped the fundamental problem of OCR (which IMO applies to LLMs):
If something is wrong 20% of the time
And you don't know which 20%
You have to check 100% of it's work
