The short answer is: to make validation more accessible to everyone.
The longer answer is: Since our cold storage is multi-sig we would need to produce more than one signature and validating signatures is difficult and complicated for the non-technical person. It is much easier for them to look at a block explorer and confirm that a transaction was spent from our cold address.

Nevada is the only state that requires a Bitcoin custodian to have a trust charter. Without a trust charter, we would need to subcustody with a trust entity to serve Nevada citizens, which goes against the principles upon which River is built. We would like to operate in Nevada, and are exploring all options for how to make that work. Unfortunately, we don't have a timeline at the moment.

Bitcoiners, we have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
We’ve all grown up in a broken fiat system.
Each day we see that system hurt the people we care about in ways they don’t understand.
But Bitcoin gives us the unique ability to build something better.
A system that is transparent, verifiable, and fair.
A system that proves the money is actually there.
Underpinned by a provably scarce asset and a decentralized network of people who are hopeful about the future.
But this system can only flourish if we hold the influential businesses that build on top of it accountable.
Don’t let them use the same old fiat games to sweep away the people who have yet to follow in our footsteps.
Demand Proof of Reserves from Bitcoin companies. No excuses, the technology is there.
We have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to build better. Let’s not squander it.

It would not work as interest is earned by our banking partner, which can not use stablecoins for that.

Hold your exchange accountable to implement PoR, because why trust them with any of your bitcoin if they won't prove their solvency?
