The reason I voted the way I did is that my top issue with AI is that we already don't do anywhere near enough critical thinking, and AI is a way to do even less. And if we outsource our thinking, we'll never do a good job addressing the other issues that AI has.

I was making the observation that Minneapolis is a city in Minnesota. Presumably, they meant to say Michigan, Wisconsin, and Minnesota.
BTW, I'm in WI and getting the full brunt of it. AQI numbers are literally off the charts.

I've been to Cuba twice, and I reached the same conclusion. It has its strengths and weaknesses, same as any other country. To describe it as a shining beacon on a hill or as a desolate hellscape tells you more about the speaker than it does about Cuba.

I recommend issuing a press release, so local media can simply copy and paste into their articles.

That's fair. What I had in mind was the trends that have brought us to the wasteful industrial economy that dominates the planet today. I should not have lumped all human societies into that. We should be studying other ways to be.

Human nature is to hunt and gather in small, egalitarian, nomadic bands. Everything else is deviation from the norm.

Here's the upshot, which clarifies any apparent inconsistencies...
"Conservatism consists of exactly one proposition, to wit: There must be in-groups whom the law protects but does not bind, alongside out-groups whom the law binds but does not protect."

For many years, the overtly racist right has made semi-coherent noises about a "coming race war," which they obviously thought they'd be on the winning side of. I think that they think that time has come.
Boy, are they going to be disappointed.

Has anyone built a solar oven specifically for use in winter? I have some ideas, and I'd like to know if anyone else has already tried something similar.

Let's see if I have this correct. Trump has assigned a designation that does not exist to an organization that does not exist for reasons that are entirely fictitious.
Do we even have a government?

Logically, this must be true at some point on Earth at any given moment, because the sun is at 90 degrees somewhere. More often than not, it's over the open ocean, and no one can tell.

I've been a progressive since the Reagan years, due to, well, Reagan. I grew up in a Christian household, and listened to what Jesus said -- blessed are the peacemakers, blessed are the poor, turn the other cheek, go the extra mile -- and not what people said about him. I drifted away from religion, but held on to those values.
Also, I've traveled to many other nations. While objectivity may be an illusion, seeing your culture from the outside is the next best thing.

I turned over my compost, as well. I put finished compost on low spots in the yard, then refilled the bin with leaves, "new" compost, then old compost. That worked quite well last time, so I'm doing it again.
