A bunch of atoms that are curious about the world, but furious about the society. We should help all humans to have a decent life without any strings attached, so that we can understand us, the atoms, and the rest of the universe. And create a smarter and saner society.

Since 2005 I make documentaries, write books, and enable many trade-free platforms for everyone.

Is funny how a few thousand migrants, poor people, are such a scare for Europe.

Maybe they should go after the millionaires and billionaires who hoard all resources, consume the most power, influence politics, and enslave so many people in Europe by holding them hostage with low wages. That's a crisis, not some poor people who seek for a better life.

After having my Celestron SLT 130 telescope for some 10 years now, yesterday it broke. Exactly before the total solar eclipse next month...after I was preparing so much for it.
What broke? This shitty little plastic gear that got worn out over the years:
[/img]
That's all. A terrible design pairing such badly made gears with metal ones. And now I cannot control the left/right movements of my telescope. And I cannot find a way to replace it. Or to buy the entire motor... Unless, maybe, I order it from USA/Canada and I pay a lot of money and may not arrive in time for the eclipse.
Hey Universe, not enough that I was already in a black hole mentally? You want more?! What else next ha?!
I give up man... :))
Fuck this shit. All of it. I wish I could sleep and just sleep. And not dream. But I can't even sleep for the past weeks. And when I do I always have nightmares.
Welcome to my downfall.
Is fine...I think I will survive. But that's the last thing I needed for the telescope to break. I also don't feel like buying a different one since it works, is just a little fucking gear/wheel....is just that I also broke something else when I opened it...so I likely need to get the entire engine for it...

I wish life was a stupid game and I can say: ok that's it, turn it off. I'll go back to the real life and not play this stupid game again.

Bernard, homo sapiens friend :), you can continue with your fantasy about Human Races as you want, but the reality is not that. You can't change that. You either adapt and get informed, or you live your life in fantasy. Don't tell me all science and scientists are wrong and somehow you are right. :P

Yes Neanderthals and Homo Sapiens mixed. Yes what a species is cannot be that exact by definition, but you can go by genetics and lineage to see the evolution of them. Lions and Tigers can also mix, and other species too. I linked above if you want to learn about species.

This is indeed depressing. I though the fediverse may harbor smarter people.
Humans are all the same basically. It is the same lineage of evolution for the Homo Sapiens. Regardless if you see some visual traits amongst some populations, these are just visual and have nothing to do with behavior. Human behavior is created by the environment, of course. This is why a chinese baby that grows in US will emulate the American values. Or like your example if someone form Japan ends up in Congo they will talk their language and emulate their behaviors. Same for a Congolese in Japan. If you think this is not the case, you are living in a parallel reality with....reality.
Unfortunately you are pedaling a 400 years old nonsense notion of scientific racism started by a french guy who traveled the world and had the impression that his european "race" is better and there are other kinds of people out there that were primitive. We explain all of this in the article.
And we explain why such nonsense ideas emerge.
Please try to at least read the article before you comment, maybe something inside of you will realize some of these things. But I kinda doubt....
Shocking to see such atrocious comments.

What is so similar between the Russian culture and the Spanish culture? From traditions to language they are very far apart. Or the Chinese culture and the Swedish culture.... Of course if you look deep down all cultures are mixes of other cultures, including the cultures in Africa or South America.
Do you really believe that there are different races of humans? That would be something ha....

Oh I have a lot of back and leg pain for the past year and we are investigating why. Tingling, numbness, etc.. Sorry to hear that, but at least you have some answers and perhaps a solution. I was wondering how long it took the doctors to discover what was the issue? Drives me nuts we can't figure why I have these issues and I work on my computer a lot so sitting down is a "pain in the ass" almost literally :D.
Had MRI and all sorts of muscle/bone specialists looking at it. So far nothing they see.
Hope it goes well for you the surgery.

That is a massive database for 1 user. Even our Friendica that has over 1k users is half that size. Also a lot of Media storage I see. Likely you should prune the old media that is not even accessed anymore. Else you are caching all media and store it locally.
The biggest Mastodon instance we manage has 2 users, 1 has 23k followers. The database is 3.7GB and stored Media about 40GB,

No I meant to migrate the current account to a new server. Alternatively you can migrate the entire database and files. Do you know how big is your database?
We also do cleanups from time to time to prune old unused stuff from the Mastodon instances we manage.

We use dedicated VPS for each instance and we can upgrade to more powerful servers if necessary. I would say for a small instance around 30€ a month should do very well. If not 60€ should work fine. That is what we offer:

You can give it a try with us if you want, and migrate your account to us. If is not working well you can switch back. I think Mastodon provides such an option for migrating accounts.

Very good video from Veritasium about that big backdoor issue on Linux recently:
[embed]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aoag03mSuXQ[/embed]
Of course this is an issue with our trade based society 100%. How? Easy:
[ol]
[li]The incentive to do harm in this society is quite high. For profit, for power that also leads to profit, for the fact that tribes and people are divided into groups trying to outgame the other groups. Like Iran has an incentive to hack USA, USA has an incentive to hack China, Russia has an incentive to hack the EU, and so forth. They can get sensitive information, blackmail, etc.. This is a global situation that has trade (as a practice) as the director of motives. Making people do what they do. Tribes hold onto their own resources, exploit other tribes, etc.. And so fighting with each other is natural.[/li]
[/ol]
If we lived in a society where trading was not a necessity and provided for all equally, we would have no reason to have tribes with borders, exploit other tribes, fight against each other when we are all in fact a big tribe, the human tribe.
[ol]
[li]The people working on a lot of open source software struggle to work on it since they also have "day jobs". They have to TRADE to survive. Imagine people had access to their basic needs trade-free, via an UBI or whatever. More time to focus on creating secure and better software, more people who can do that. Less of those incentivized to do harm and insert backdoors.[/li]
[/ol]
Overall it is a cancerous trade society where humans are livestock and wolves. Consuming and being consumed.
The only sane way out of it is to HELP PEOPLE DETACH FROM THE TRADE SOCIETY. So they can be people and focus on RELEVANT STUFF.
Else it is a game of those who want to exploit and those who try to stop them. Endless....

Extinction Rebellion may have gone quiet, but climate protest will come roaring back | Oliver Haynes - https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2025/may/20/extinction-rebellion-climate-protest-law
Yes....I noticed that too. You know there were many loud people and projects for the past decade or so. Some protesting, some proposing radical alternatives to this so called "capitalist" society. Meaning this trade-based society. They are all kinda gone now...
I am one of them. Since 2011 I scream and scream and scream. And do all sorts of projects.
But the truth is that we are like trying to grow a crop in the middle of Times Square. There is no fertile soil, only concrete and people trying to stop you doing it.
There is no help for me to create and maintain the so many projects I do. There is no support for the so many good-willing people out there who want to protect nature, do good deeds, amazing projects, open source, and so on. NOTHING.
We have to fend for ourselves - to find ways to trade and stay alive, while doing these things. There is no way forward like that.
We are bound to perish.
I keep on surviving, surprisingly enough, with more projects than I started in 2011. But my reach is hundreds of times less than it was in 2011. I have to trade at times to make some money, I have to stress over not having enough to make it, I have to do a ton of work that should be done by 10 people normally.
The financial support is bleeding out, the interest I feel is not even present that much.
It all sounds very pessimistic but it is the truth. However I am still not giving up. I have new ideas and approaches.
And I know there are MANY MANY people out there who still keep the flame of revolting and activism alive, and all they need is a bit of fertile soil to thrive. But to get that fertile soil, the help, is really hard. And perhaps that is where the focus should be.
Maybe TROM will start to focus on that bit...
Will see.
If you are one of us, don't despair. You are for sure not alone. Maybe new projects and forms of activism will arise out of the stagnant frustration and anger that so many have layered within.
A system in which its members cannot even have the time and means to protest or propose/work on alternatives, is an abusive system. It only wants for "it" to survive, as it is the only way for its members to stay afloat. Therefore humans have to trade in the trade system, to survive. That is the forced incentive. Anything else can only temporarily survive.
The trade game has to go.
STEPS:
[ol]
[li]Provide the basic needs as trade-free: healthcare, education, communication, food, shelter, etc..[/li]
[li]Provide a Universal Basic Income to everyone, no strings attached.[/li]
[/ol]
This is how we allow people to focus on what they see as important. To have time to get informed and inform others. To get involved, to help, to thrive.
Nothing else will work!
FIRST: HELP THE PEOPLE!

Unfortunately youtube is pretty fast at blocking the IPs of peertube instances....we still count not find a way around for our instance. The feature is amazing, but Google is unfriendly to say it in a nice way...

2025-01-10 14:00:01 UTC

Hey @PeerTube this year I will try to push our Peertube instance to get more eyeballs and people interested to join. But we need to also help each other. We have a few original Peertube channels that prioritize Peertube and are not simply "second hand youtube channels".
Maybe you can recommend them and more on your https://joinpeertube.org/en_US#find-peertube-instances page.
For one you may be aware but we published a 5 hours documentary exclusively on Peertube - https://videos.trom.tf/w/p/fVpfZ9VfWrWawHkggKi7Wz Subtitled in several languages. We even talk about The Fediverse and Peertube in the documentary.
We have our entire TROM channel there - https://videos.trom.tf/c/trom/videos - Hundreds of videos. And this year I will start a new video series. Some videos will also be about the fediverse, peertube, and FOSS.
We recently started our motorhome adventures (very family friendly channel) - https://videos.trom.tf/c/tromhome and we are posting there twice a week or so.
Be Brave To Act made by @Dima has really great and original content about volunteering. We will try to help him keep the channel updated - he mainly posts on youtube.
Or VideoNeat - https://videos.trom.tf/c/videoneat - documentary trailers.
We need more original Peertube creators and not simply those who "mirror" their Youtube channels there. If people know that the channel X posts only on Peertube and not on Youtube, it may make these people follow on Peertube. But if people know that channel X posts on Youtube and Peertube is just like a mirror....is different.
You and others need to help us and people like us, if possible, to get the Peertube content out. So that people get to use Peertube more often.
I choose to post on Peertube first, or only, despite not reaching as many people as I would on Youtube, but I do it because I think it is worth the effort to promote this sane alternative to the giant ad-platform that Youtube is.
And thank you for what you've created. By "helping" us, I mean perhaps promote good and original Peertube content on your homepage and also share it if possible. So the newcomers get to see that Peertube is not just the awesome software you've built, but people use it to create original/good content.
Thanks!

What in the world are you talking about "dude"? Where did I say you can trust google with your data? I say the opposite.

The book that I wrote is digitally available for everyone and every claim is sourced where I claim it. Click and see.
That being said, these isms are a lot of mushy ideas. Also the theory of these ideas can be widely different from their implementation.
And by "no one forced anyone to do this or that", I do not know what you are saying. Of course so many people are forced by others or circumstances. All choices are influenced by external factors: needs, efficiency, fear, etc..

You run a business selling food, you have little choice, you have to pay your rent. I need food. I work, make money, then buy food from you. We were both coerced into this game, now who is stealing from who in his situation?
We can have endless debates as to what we mean by trade, but I go with what is generally understood - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trade
I also wrote a book about the evolution of trade - https://www.tromsite.com/books/#flipbook-the-money-game-and-beyond/1/
"all employment under capitalism is coerced" I would say most employment on this planet, currently, is coerced. From US to China.

Capitalism is a manifestation of trade, and ill defined for that matter.
As for "it's not trade if it's coerced" - we are mostly coerced to trade nowadays. Want food? Trade your time, energy, skills to someone else, get a currency, go trade it for food. Food is essential yet you have to trade for it, you have no other choice. And so it goes for pretty much anything.
Trade is an exchange, voluntarily or not.

NO.
This is so confusing. There are many free things where you are not "the product". We make many, see https://www.tromsite.com and https://trom.tf.
I wish people would stop saying this about google and the like. There is a simple and to the point way of describing these "free" services. They are TRADE-BASED. You have to trade something to them, in order to use their services.
In the same way that when you go to a supermarket you have to trade your currency for what you grab from it, you have to trade your attention (ads) or data to Google when you go on their platform. Currency, attention, data.
S I M P L E
We live in a TRADE-BASED society where pretty much everything is trade-based. Money is just a currency we invented, but trades go without currency as well.
We spent more than a decade trying to shed some light on this confusion.

So when you create something entirely free, simply call it TRADE-FREE.
