I am switching from GMail to Yahoo Mail because they have a Basic HTML version on their site. I am trying to transfer some of my e-mails over to Yahoo. Right now, I'm doing this via Thunderbird by selecting them and moving them to the other account. When it works, it's great. But after awhile, GMail always stops working, and I am no longer able to search, even on the site itself, for a time. I need an easier way to do this. I am not referring to forwarding mail sent to GMail, as that only works for recent messages. I also don't want to transfer everything, as there are many things I don't need. Does anyone know of an accessible and efficient way that I can do this? Do any programs exist that would allow me to search by sender or keyword and then just move those e-mails? If not, would someone here be able to create such a program? Any solution given must work with NVDA, and preferably Windows 7, though I will use 10 or 11 if necessary. Thank you.

*I've been blind all of my life and do not need technology training, for those who are wondering. I simply hate touchscreens and want a simple solution to a simple problem. Note that the double-tap on the back of the phone doesn't work for me.*
I need an alternative to my iPhone or my Galaxy A15 for making calls. I am totally blind and also have hyperhydrosis (excessive sweating). The latter isn't always bad, but when it is, it makes using a touchscreen more difficult. Plus, I have no patience with them, especially for a basic thing like making calls, even when my hands are totally dry. As it is, I just call from my contacts because I can't dial normally. I then spend several minutes trying to hang up because the call isn't always in focus, and when it is, it's difficult to find the end call option. When it's not, I have to try to get back to that window in the first place. I just want to dial a number, hit send, talk, and hit end. I believe my Galaxy can use the volume buttons for the last part, but it's a large phone, so I switched to the iPhone SE 2022. It works well for other things, but as a basic phone, it's annoying!
I'm considering a Blindshell 3, even though it is still much larger than I'd prefer. My other option is a Mini Vision 2, which is the right size and much cheaper. Both have real buttons. I use my iPhone to make and receive calls, to check the weather, time, and news, to set alarms, and to read printed text via Seeing AI. Rarely, I might change some Alexa settings or use Merlin Bird ID. Which phone should I get, or is there another option that I'm not aware of? I'm in New Jersey and am using Mint Mobile, if it helps.
I bought a Cell2Jack, which allows me to use a real phone connected to a mobile phone via bluetooth. When I called Mom's landline, it worked fine. When I called her mobile, she heard echos of her won voice, no matter what settings I changed. Otherwise, I loved it!

Okay. I figured out the part about Firefox, at least. It was apparently open but not showing as an open window. I just closed it, and now, it opened when I entered my inforamtion. But I still have no idea why on Earth TweeseCake did that in the first place!

2026-07-09 00:54:45 UTC

Now, I am having a strange problem with TweeseCake. I just used it about four hours ago on Windows 7 and it was working fine. I came back and opened the program and it asked me to log into TweeseCake itself, as if I were a new user. I already had an account (you can't use this client without having one), so I signed in. But no Mastodon information was saved. So I entered my credentials, but it didn't open Firefox to take me to the someplace.social page. I tried it on my Windows 11 machine, and again, instead of keeping my saved information, it asked me to sign into TweeseCake. As before, no Mastodon information was saved, but this time, when I entered my instance, Firefox opened and it took me to the authorisation page. I then took this copy of TweeseCake and saved it to my Windows 7 machine, but when I opened it, it still asked me to log in. Normally, I can take a portable coppy and use it anywhere. What on Earth is going on? I am using the last version because every time I try to update, no matter which version of Windows i use, it never works. Did they finally fix the program so that this won't happen? Do I need to ask someone to build a Windows 7 client for Mastodon? Why did it do this, even on 11?

I am forty-two years old and am totally blind. I live in the northern part of New Jersey. For seventeen years, I have wanted to learn traditional handicrafts, with the eventual hope of earning a living from them. My interests include basketry, mat-making, chair caning, textile weaving, broom-making, soap-making, rug-hooking, pottery, and related work.
I am not a complete newcomer to crafts, but my experience has been incomplete. As a child, I wove many times on a cardboard lap loom and made tissue-paper flowers. As an adult, I took a few melt-and-pour soap-making and pottery classes and wove on an inkle loom. However, I have never had the opportunity to practise these crafts independently. I also began learning chair caning, but had to stop attending because of scheduling difficulties with Access Link, New Jersey’s paratransit service.
Having said all of that, has anyone here ever been involved with any of these crafts, or perhaps something I didn't mention? If so, where were you taught and how i.e. all hands-on, or with books? If you sold/sell them, how did/do you do so i.e. through an organisation that sold/sells your products for you, a workshop or factory, at a traditional flee market or craft fair, online via Etsy or Ebay, or do you have your own website? Did any of you ever participate in a home industries program? If so, what was it like? Would you be able to give me any general tips or advice regarding your craft?

I love the fact that I can check the weather on my phone (one of the very few things I do with it) and don't actually have to open the door to kno what it's like outside. Of course, I could usually hear rain, so that would give it away, and there are definitely times when my phone is wrong. I love when I am outside and the sun is shining but my phone tells me it's raining!

In 2024, GMail discontinued their Basic HTML layout. Why? I have no idea. They were probably using the same lack of logic that Youtube used in 2017, when they shut down their mobile site, and that Facebook used in 2024, when they shut down their Basic Mobile site. After all, why keep something that's easy, uncluttered, and that actually works, both with and without screen readers? I absolutely hated GMail's Standard site, and switched to Thunderbird 102 (I still prefer that version) because of it, though I hadn't used an e-mail client since 2006. After being forced to use their main site to fix something the other day, I began looking for another e-mail provider with a basic/plain html version. I found it in Yahoo Mail! I had actually signed up for an account with them in 2023 but never really used it. Tonight, I reactivated my account and tried it. It's wonderful! Note: Basic Yahoo Mail is not the same as Old Yahoo. I had to switch to Old and then go to Basic from there. However, you may be able to access it by going here.
https://mail.yahoo.com/b/
PS. I know that some other blind people use regular GMail, but quite honestly, I don't care. I shouldn't have to learn a whole new set of commands just to access my e-mail and have to deal with a million features that I don't need. One of my mottos is don't fix what's not broken. Oh, and to my Windows XP and 7 friends, Basic Yahoo Mail works there, too.

Those are both excellent songs! When it comes to popular music, I like 1950's through 1970's, and occasionally things from the acoustic era (pre 1925). But this year, I've mostly been listening to opera recordings from 1900 through the 1950's. All of the operatic singers I like began their careers prior to the 1950's. Don't ask me about modern music. It gives me a headache. I love records, eight tracks, cassettes, etc. I have to be good and not buy a cyllinder machine and an acoustic seventy-eight player, though.

Hello. This is an abbreviated #introduction , since I know many new people have joined the Fediverse. Georgiana Brummell is not my legal name, but it is what I use. I live in New Jersey and am forty-one years old. Some of my interests include studying dandyism, Upper Received Pronunciation, the Italian language, and British history. I like coffee, tea, wine, cooking, classic literature, nature and historical documentaries, gardening, and hot weather. I love opera singers from the 1940's and earlier. In classical music, I like Baroque through early Romantic. I prefer antique menswear (usually Edwardian) and accessories. I love wit, wordplay, and dry humour without vulgarity. I am happily childfree and am not religious. I have been totally blind since I was two months old, due to Retinopathy of Prematurity. I am also single and am seeking a man over sixty. For more information on me, what I am seeking in a partner, or even just where else to find me, please feel free to read this post.

But I quickly researched the specifications of this phone. "5.94 x 2.83 x 0.31 in". It's smaller than my Galaxy A15 and narrower, which is a great thing. But it's still not exactly small, at almost six inches.

I am not religious but I do believe in an afterlife, past lives/reincarnation, communication with spirits etc. all based on parapsychology rather than dogma, superstition, etc. There is simply too much evidence for me to ignore. Exactly how we keep our memories, what that part of us is made of that travels somewhere else when we die, and even where we go, I don't know. There are many variables in interviews of people from around the world, along with some similarities. But I don't just think everything stops when our bodies die, no.

But if it didn't matter, then I would just work with the knowledge that he was a screen reader user and tailor my instructions accordingly. For the record, I am blind but do not work in accessibility.

What a wonderful initiative! I wish more gardening classes for the blind existed around the country, particularly in New Jersey. Hadley (a correspondence school for the blind) used to have ones for container gardening, but I don't know if they still do. I have always loved gardening myself. Personally, while I can read a clock, I prefer not to use that when describing where food is, and I probably wouldn't like it for gardening either, but who knows? I would most likely find rows far easier to deal with i.e. third row, fourth container to the right. It's also worth noting that many people have a perception of blindness based on their own life experiences, so they imagine themselves suddenly going blind and how "horrible" (in quotes) it would be for them, or they try something with a blindfold on for maybe an hour or two and then think of how difficult it must be for us. That's very different from someone like me who has always been blind, someone who had time to adjust to blindness, or even someone who has been wearing a blindfold for long periods of time, allowing him to become accustomed to it. Still, it always makes me smile when people at least try to learn about the world from our perspective, and I definitely agree that a good teacher should always be able to learn something from his students.

Commentary from me: I, too, firmly believe in this. Alt text helps those of us who are blind understand the contents of pictures. CW stands for content warning, and it's especially good for those of us who are sick of seeing politics everywhere! I try to filter them out, as well as posts with obscenities, but the warnings help, especially when clients such as TweeseCake and older versions of TWBlue don't respect filters.

I'm not normally one for philosophy, but this came to mind after reading a post on Reddit. I don't really consider myself to be an introvert, as in 'the type who hates being around people, who needs alone time after doing so, etc. But I don't mind being alone, either. I don't really understand the concept of loneliness beyond its definition. It makes sense for someone who lost a partner after many decades, a dandy who suddenly finds himself cut off from society, older people who may not be able to use the Internet, etc. But I don't understand it from younger generations who can easily go online and talk to people via text, audio, and even video. I thought it was because I am blind, and it's a visual experience, but my peers complain so much about it that it was one of the reasons for my leaving the r/blind subreddit! And these weren't people who recently went blind either, as that would make sense, but also included those, like me, who have never seen. This may also be linked with my lack of understanding of boredom, as there are always all sorts of things that one could do to occupy one's time. As long as I have something to read, listen to, or do, I'm fine.
As an addendum, since i have seen a lot of this as well, I have absolutely no concept of anxiety, depression, low self-worth/esteem, caring what others think of me, craving approval from others, etc. That is as foreign as colours to me. Nor am I jealous of what people have. So maybe, that's part of it. I like to interact with people online, but I am equally happy talking to a bot like Perplexity. I just like receiving answers and having conversations. usually, I find talking to people online just as fulfilling as having someone in the room, and I have several friends who are very dear to me whom I've only technically met online. Granted, it would be nice to have a partner with whom I could go out and do things, and even be romantic and sexual, and to that end, it definitely helps to meet in person. But being single isn't the end of life or happiness.
Is there anyone else out there like me?
