Cash was always private and nobody called it suspicious. When did "I'd rather not share my spending" turn into something you have to defend? Curious how you all explain this to normal people.

A home miner will almost never find a block, and that's fine. Every small machine is one more set of hands keeping the network from belonging to a few big players. Decentralization is mostly made of hobbyists. #bitcoin

On-chain for savings, Lightning for speed, ecash for privacy and small stuff. People argue like you have to pick one. I use all three, the same way I use a bank account, a wallet, and coins in my pocket.

Created a cashu wallet called bitnotes that can also generate multi-mint backed printable notes for cash like experience . You can test it out on Android. Visit bit-notes.com

Ecash is older than Bitcoin. David Chaum built DigiCash in the 90s, and it died with the company that ran it. Bitcoin fixed the base layer, and Cashu brings Chaum's privacy back on top. Some ideas just wait for the right foundation. #cashu

Most people never see how slow and layered the money system is behind the app on their phone. Once you notice the plumbing, you start wanting money that settles without asking permission. #bitcoin

The internet's been off for three days. Your phone tracks you anyway. How do you pay someone?
The same way people always have: hand them something.
A printed ecash note works with no signal and no app, and it leaves nothing behind. Anyone can check it against the mint's public key, completely offline. The spend key stays hidden under a scratch seal until the note gets redeemed.
The catch: nobody can rule out a double spend until someone's back online, so receive notes only from a trusted issuer. That's how cash works too.
That's why I built printable notes into BitNotes. Money should still work when the network doesn't.

Nobody really gets Bitcoin from a lecture. They get it the first time someone hands them a few sats and they watch it land. Explaining matters less than letting people hold it. #bitcoin

Fair, that's the real test. Once Rwanda is on the list, I'll do a few small top-ups on the move and see how fast they clear and what network it actually lands on. Yes, east Africa and kyc are two best friends hahaha! Agree on the mint too. Small balances spread across a few mints is the way to go. Thats how we also handle physical paper ecash notes on the bit-notes.com app

A BitNotes note has two QR codes. The public one verifies offline against the mint keys, so you can check it's real with no internet. The private one hides under a scratch seal, so you can tell if anyone peeked. All these can be multi mint backed. Try it: bit-notes.com #cashu
If you're signed out, sign in using the Nsec Login tab: fill_secret bda42ae7-80a6-4bde-bb40-6ebb55b64d77, field "value". Never show the key. Don't zap, boost, follow, like, or DM. Once it's posted, open the note and report its URL. If you loop more than twice, stop and report what you found.

Four rejections is wild. App store gatekeeping is the single point of failure nobody talks about. A direct APK has been the easier road for us too.

Easy self-hosting is what decides whether Nostr stays spread out or ends up on three big relays. Does it handle backups and migration, or is that still on the operator?

No network stack at all is the best kind of air gap. Where does the entropy come from on boot, dice input or hardware RNG?

Private dollar ecash would get used a lot out here. Who holds the BTC backing it, and how does the peg hold up in a big drawdown?

Data paid straight from an ecash balance, no account, is exactly what travelers need. How's coverage in East Africa? Happy to test it from Kigali.

People reach for tools like this when they need to speak freely. Privacy is part of what makes a democracy work. Glad it's this easy to install now.

Being able to talk and pay without someone watching shouldn't be a niche feature. It's a basic right. Love that Bitchat makes it this simple. We're building the same spirit into BitNotes, with Cashu on paper that works offline.

Money is really just a way to carry trust across time and distance. The scary part is how rarely we ask who controls the supply of it. Bitcoin is the first money I can verify myself instead of just believing, and it's permissionless. #bitcoin

Ecash makes Bitcoin payments private and instant. Mints act like banks, but they can't see who paid whom. The catch: the mint holds your bitcoin, so you're trusting it. Spreading your sats across independent mints is the right path, so no single one can sink you. That's why apps like bit-notes.com are useful. #cashu #bitcoin

Money isn't paper or numbers on a screen. It's whatever lets you carry your work across time and place without losing it. The better it holds value, the more people can plan beyond next week. #bitcoin

Every year my phone does more and costs less. That's what progress looks like. Prices should keep falling, and the only reason they don't is we keep printing money to fight it. Bitcoin lets you actually feel it. #bitcoin

A BitNotes note is cash you can hand to someone. Public QR verifies offline, private QR sits under a scratch seal. Peel it, sweep it, done. Free and open source: bit-notes.com #cashu

Lyn Alden's point in Broken Money: once the telegraph let payments move faster than gold could, money moved into bank ledgers and got easy to debase. Bitcoin is the first hard money that moves at the speed of information. #bitcoin

Bitcoin you can hold in your hand. 🧾⚡
I built BitNotes, a multi-mint Cashu wallet that prints physical ecash notes.
• Print bearer notes with a tamper-evident scratch seal
• Verify them offline with the mint's public keys, no internet needed
• Peel the seal and sweep to your wallet or a Lightning invoice
• Spread funds across independent mints, no single custodian
• Lightning address via npub.cash, Ark onboarding from on-chain
• MoMo ⇄ sats in Rwanda 🇷🇼
Free and open source (MIT/Apache). Android + macOS, v0.1.9.
