Tristan Colgate-McFarlane

I've often argued that it can be quite healthy to be bad at your hobbies. One thing that is very common with tech nerds (maybe of my generation?), we were seen as whizz kids with computers, which then got conflated with being "clever". And if you're "clever" you think you can be good at everything.
This has two definite down sides. We aren't good at doing things we suck at. And if we can get to vaguely not suck, we become obsessed with being "professional" at it.

the 12s looks nice and punchy. That's a surprising difference

that safe light footage looks great! Any idea what your ISO hit? Did you use any denoising?
I really need to just try my em5 with the 25mm f/1.4 . I don't need anything that looks amazing, but this definitely isn't the happy place for micro four thirds.

this was, of course, the genius of Columbo! We know who did it, let the chase commence! (The finest TV programme ever made)

years ago I realised that, because of how the legal stuff works in the US, if a "suspect" has basically any dialogue at the start, they probably did it.
No way a US TV company is going to pay an extra to talk.
Obviously it's never the first suspect, so it's usually the random apparent "Non Player Character" that got to say something then went away.

I will, though she doesn't usually take much persuading.
I'm generally in charge of bread (specifically savoury), but I think those buns were the first time she did a yeasted dough, so I leave them to her.
Here's me "getting the pizza oven ready", and an Ektar pizza (actually, it might be Portra 800)

I shall immediately begin dropping "subtle hints" to her.

Are there people on here that have done much video recording of #Darkroom processes? What have you used for recording?

that's the most use I've seen a CCNA put to too. Of course, the CISSP course book would fit nicely in that space, and would be doing far more good than any CISSP in history ever has.

I'm curious if anywhere has ever successfully spotted an intrusion via a networks IDS. I've had to work with the things for decades but have never seen one report a useful issue.

it should be, but we *had* a green energy sector. We were quite big on building turbines and researching tidal etc. in the 80s and 90s
Once it came down to actually manufacturing things we just sort of seemed to give up. Apparently we just want financial services that employ a few thousand people.

the foundations of our modern university sector were built on thriving industries that needed that research. Industries we've sold off.
What is left is essentially education tourism. Great for wealthy foreign student (for now), but not doing much for the domestic students that leave and enter markets that don't need them.
There's no appetite for reindustrialisation, so stagnation seems inevitable?

'People don't hate Labour... they hate Starmer', Labour MP tells BBC
That feels demonstrably false. You don't put a reform candidate on a local council because you don't like the labour leader. (well, people are fucking stupid, so maybe they do). Blaming Starmer is lazy.
Unfortunately "just wants to watch the world burn", is now a very active voting block.

Epstein is going to bring down the UK govt. We're going to end up with fucking Farage and fucking Reform within the year.
(this brought to you from that bit of me that knows that any time I want to think positively, the very worst scenario will inevitably come to pass).

A bit gut wrenching. The takeaway seems to be "we're doing this, regardless of whether it's any good", and also "it's important that we are grossly over funded in order to fuck up society".

unfortunately that doesn't seem to work. (see Trump). It didn't work with Johnson, and hasn't worked with Farage so far.
People actually don't care how rich someone is if they give them permission to be cruel to someone else.

we need all the other parties to start being a lot more up front and hammering home how much of our current economic pain, (and the "migrant crisis"), is a direct result of Farage's Brexit, and start hanging it round his neck like a damned albatross.
Every one of his current idiot policies will further tank our economy, and people need to get that through their thick xenophobic tiny skulls.

have you figured out an approach for flattening yet? One possible hack is the old hotel style trouser presses, they are super cheap on ebay. I've seen someone using one for other prints, but I reckon they might do OK for fibre paper, and cheap enough to mean it's not a huge loss if it doesn't work out.

Thry looks fantastic!
Sadly there's no practical way I can use fibre at the moment (time and water constraints). One day I may get to retire somewhere and build a dedicated dark room, but that's a long way off.

in truth I don't think many of us are finding it funny, and if the British can't joke about it, something must be very bleak. In the 1980s we had a whole sitcom about the Nazi occupied France.

Requested film hand check at London City and they took in without blinking!
The rest of my security check was a tyre fire, but that was my fault, they were all super friendly and patient with a dishevelled old hippy.
