yes this is the current update I am working on. but will take a while as I want to allow users to use the old method if they want and its taking me a while to sort out the best way to do this.

I think there is one that does, maybe coracle?
its on my todo list for astral but haven't been able to work on astral much lately. will add this while removing markdown.

hmm non-follows should only pull in as the reply or root event of a follow's reply. very weird this is pulling into your follows feed...

2023-01-28 18:31:48 UTC

no easy way to do this rn

thank you for taking the time to write this out. these are great takeaways for all to be aware of.

nope, still haven't gotten any dm. but can already see my posts saved on your relay so everything seems to be working except dm notification.

its working! can see my events saved there. but didn't get dm confirmation.

this is a good point

I guess i think its higher signal if you can filter which language you see from your follows (especially if you normally skip those weird languages)

2023-01-27 19:01:52 UTC

- reply

it doesn't prevent it from your follows. it does prevent it from the twitter general content it seems. like if you sign up for new account and have no follows you will only see your own language.

sure this is definitely a thing, I agree. but not what i'm talking about.
rn on nostr most conversation is in english. who do you think would prioritize language query filters more, those speaking english or those speaking something else?

2023-01-27 18:35:59 UTC

- reply

i mean we all agree twitter is broken right? not functionally, but incentives are broken. and I can't say i trust the people that built those broken incentives.
obviously I am generalizing and there are exceptions. but would trust someone who quit more than someone elon fired.

oof i don't know how I feel about a new kind to group notes.
I was saying if you write a spanish note, you only broadcast to your spanish relays. english note, only broadcast to english relays. dont need to translate across notes, but def could be a nice feature

2023-01-27 18:24:19 UTC

- reply

its less an assertion about english speakers and more an assertion about people who speak a dominant language.
if you speak a dominant language (and have a mono lingual culture) you are likely more ok with not being able to filter by language (and solely rely on translation)

2023-01-27 17:42:50 UTC

- reply

what exactly do you mean by translation relays? how would that infrastructure work? how would clients query that relay without a language query parameter?

you can publish to individual relays using the relay list (in the option menu of each post). probably could be made more intuitive.

imo security (in this case minimal bad actors) still is more important than speed.
agree pay for relay will work. but still want a free/non lightning option.

how patient are you being? does it load and then not work properly? or not load at all?

you using safari or chrome? I don't have iphone so astral is completely untested there

I wouldn't say 'well' but it 'works'. UI can still be a big unresponsive at times. only tested on android though.
works best if you dl it as pwa web app (on chrome/firefox there should be a popup asking if you want to dl when opening astral)

there won't be formatting. I can still parse the plain text into links and stuff. the add link section in post entry (i thought you had said you used it...)

sorry that the search wasn't working... its very confusing/frustrating for end user. it may have been UI being laggy... trying to make astral less UI intensive as I update

literally looking at your nip05 now on astral. can you be a bit more specific?

2023-01-21 22:23:45 UTC

- reply

existing nip05 should resolve. at least I'm seeing all of them. I did fix nip05 query for general nip05 lookup, just missed it in setttings. do you have example of one that isn't resolving?

so cool. would you consider maintaining at least one nostr identity that I can follow for updates?
#[3] maybe this could solve the fatal flaw you see with POW? could be used for POW subscriptions maybe??
