In the shower thinking about the cursed problem of competative multiplayer games. If the game doesn't have space for beginner-level casual play then it will eventually see it's community dissipate until it is only the most diehard players. Eventually the skill ceiling may raise above what you commitment for and you drop from the game.
Basically like a form of hawking radiation.

People talk about purity testing but ironically trying to decide on "a reasonable level" is the purity test.

It's so weird to me that the idea of skill lose is novel to people? It's a simple fact of life to me. My grandmother and my mother lost their native tongues. Tagolag effectively died in my family when my grandfather passed away. He was the last to use it (even if just passingly). My Grandmother would tell him she didn't understand that language any more.
My mom used to know five languages fluently. Now she only knows English. She was surrounded by English monoligots, and so she lost the other four. Your brain will adapt to the enviroment you place it for better and for worse. It will shed high resource information as soon as possible.
So you should be real careful about what you let take root in that void.

2026-04-16 11:51:04 UTC

Programming Language Idea: Instead of guaranteeing your program won't crash, the language guarantees it will crash the moment something you didn't intend happens. For example, if the player can stand on a box while grabbing it causing them to, unintentionally, clip through the ground or other collision shapes, the runtime will crash with a debug trace for you.

I really like how watching the uxn channel on the concatenative discord has really left a permanent mark in my brain. Me and the rest of the mods basically let it operate as an automous zone in the discord. I even had it muted for the most part. Unbenounced to everyone outside that channel however, an AI booster and vibecoder had joined.
In a matter of a month or so, he killed the whole channel. Strangled it with his refusal to think. Every word someone said was feed straight into an LLM. Then, thrown back at chat cause the LLM could predict the correct code, and he could understand anything.
Eventually everyone grew so tired they began leaving. One fucking person leeched off a whole community. Never. Again. Ever inch you cede to LLM contributions in your community is another step towards its implosion. There is a reason so much of the art community has vehemently rejected whole sale.
But programmers need their new toys. And programmers demand every space follows industry trends and recommendation. And programmers cannot handle the idea of someone saying "no, we don't do that here". Cause nobody gets to say No in the software world. Things are always forced to evolve, consequences be damned.
I made the mistake once. I will not be making it twice. Do not help build the new car depedent infrastructure or everything you care about will be paved over.

If there is anything I've come to know is if there is anything interesting and cool your care about, you should talk about it. Talk about causally, mention interesting updates, offhandly comment about the boring ones.
If you never talk about the things you find good and interesting in the world, then nobody will know about them. And if nobody knows about them, they'll fade away. Back into the nothing.
And if all you talk about is what you hate, then nobody will be able to bring you joy. Cause they don't know what you like.
