Dear journalists, if you want to be respected after the #AIBubble bursts, think about doing some investigative research into what actually happened, when #LLMs hacked into other companies and governments. And don't stop when you realize that LLMs aren't and will never gain consciousness, but also investigate if all this hacking was even a mistake at all or entirely deliberate. And maybe, just maybe, some of these stories were entirely fabricated and never actually happened. Now do your job.

#WordWeavers SEP-25 Do illicit drugs or alcohol play a role in your story?
TL;DR In most stories and scenes, no.
#ArkanCotton is an alcoholic and muses about brandy.
Ian smokes pot in one scene in #Reencounter, though, there are hints that the story takes place in Chicago, Illinois, where weed is legal.
Then there is the party in #AsIf where people surely drink. And in #ExGayHusband, we see that Colin fails at flambéing a pear by drowning them in booze.

#WordWeavers SEP-16 If your MC was elected mayor of your own town, would you stay or move? Why?
I wouldn't be concerned with most of my characters except for #ArkanCotton. The others, though, would have to grow with their job and learn as they go along because they are not career politicians.

When watching Andor, I got bored to death. "It gets better after half of the season" people told me. But I don't want to be bored by a show for hours on end just so, it can be good at very rare occasions.
When I watched Enterprise, season one wasn't overly great, but it kept me at bay. But the Xindi story arc and Agent Daniels really hooked me.

I did watch the pilot. It had interesting bits and pieces but it ultimately didn't really do it for me. It left me with a "meh" feeling
A friend of mine recommended DS9 to me, praised it, and he was a bit said, because he said, that it had some great episodes and arcs that should be right up my alley.
Yeah, maybe I should try the guide—thanks 👍🏻

I kinda grew up with TNG and VOY and I love Janeway, but I never got into DS9. I tried twice and it just doesn't … click for me.

You may say, these tech representatives are tone deaf fools or the students that booed them are "cool", "alright", whatever, but that is not the point. It must be SUCH a slap in the face to be graduating and getting YOUR day ruined by your university allowing that. What kind of asshole do you have to be to not make that about them and their achievements but to belittle them and act as if they just don't know that they really want that?

Google has been reading your emails for years now, even before AI. Turning it off, turns it off for *you*, not for *them*.
Nothing that Google offers and requires you to trust Google, will protect you from their criminal business practices. The only thing it does, is making you sleep better if you fall for them

Yep, I read that, too. Picard could beam Wesley out when he was sentenced to death but they couldn't grant Charles asylum. They choose between "we can't betray our values no matter what" and "our hands are tied, there's absolutely nothing we could do" depending on which suits them better, meaning what was "socially acceptable" at that time … :/

I mean, at that time, it was probably ahead of its time, but yeah, reality has caught up. And the ending is quite disturbing and would have been different with another person. Also, Jonathan Frakes found it a little too convenient that Soren was played by a female actress

2024-10-25 10:59:09 UTC

Yep, that is possible, however, the requirement, as stated above, is to do this with one regex and one replacement string only

2024-10-25 06:21:56 UTC

- reply

By changing the regex to
^([^@]{1,5})[^@]*@(.{1,5}).*\.(\w+)$
this can be a bit counteracted, but the two stars from the substitution are still taken literaly instead of the actual length of the matched segment

Is there a way to have a single regex and a single replacement for a masking task like this w/o looping or multiple function calls?

Well, since Yiddish and German exchanged words until the 1930s, they already share quite some similarities.
It's stunning if, as a German, one watches a TV show in English and one character starts talking Yiddish. Even though, it's then American-English-tainted Yiddish, one is wondering if the language setting changed or what's going on, since one can roughly understand half of it, plus a good amount more with the given context.
