The safest option is for the first version of my OpenHD setup to just use a Raspberry Pi 4B as the transmitter and another as the receiver.
I already have a Pi 4B laying around, so just gotta buy another.
It’s strange that the Pi 5 can only do video encoding on the CPU, because they removed the dedicated hardware video encoder for some reason 🤷‍♂️ And this is why it’s not officially supported by OpenHD.

I actually ended up buying the RadioMaster Nomad transmitter with the XR4 receiver instead. The reason why is because the Nomad is dual-band which should work better with MavLink and ELRS.
The RadioMaster Bandit is using an older chip but the housing is made of much higher quality (CNC aluminum compared to plastic), which is why it’s much more expensive. But bth, I think plastic is fine for the Nomad since it’s going to weight much less when attached to the RC controller.
I also purchased the controller, which ended up being the Jumper Bumblebee. I really hope I can change the gimbals to be self-centered, but will see. I couldn’t find any information about it, so I’m just assuming it’s possible because it’s a pretty normal thing to be able to do… #drone #DIY

I think I will use OpenHD for video transmission and ExpressLRS for MavLink telemetry.
RadioMaster Bandit seems like a good option for telemetry. Long range and uses the open standard ELRS.
For video transmission, I could also choose Divimath HDMI VTX instead of OpenHD. It appears to be the only VTX with an HDMI input, everything else I can find uses little FPV cameras (similar to DJI O4).

I also need a way to connect an HDMI camera (e.g. Sony FX3) to the Raspberry Pi 4B which will be running the OpenHD software.
I purchased this little fella called BliKVM C790:

I purchased another CUAV Neo 3 Pro GPS for the drone project as I _need_ dual GPS setup. It’s not strictly necessary, but nice to have a backup GPS on such an expensive drone 😅
Also purchased a Maple Planar 5.8GHz-17dB antenna to try OpenHD. It might be an interesting way to handle the video link. I still need to decide on which RP-SMA socket to buy. I’m considering ALFA AWUS036ACH. #drone

For some reason everyone is dropping their own browsers on X.com today 😂
They are all native Swift which is cool, but I’m almost 100% sure that they are just using a `WKWebView` 😬
This is one of them:
