- Definitely need to give #TinyGlade a go (and it natively supports #Linux I think??)
- I've only just discovered #MineTest so I think I might also download that and have a play at some point this weekend.
- I might get tinkering with #Proton to see if I can #ShadowsOfDoubt working a bit better.

Hey #Fediverse, me again asking for some advice.
I'm after a (preferably free) SVG collection with a variety of flat icons of different game controllers (at least 10-15).
This is for a non commercial, fediverse related project hence the free preference but I may be able to scrape together some cash if required.

You should regularly update your #Introduction post, so here goes.
I'm mostly on here to talk about #VideoGames, but it's a bit of a variety account.
Some of my favourites are #CItiesSkylines2, #TransportFever2, #TombRaider, #Fallout, #DragonAge
I don't understand how people can't just be kind to each other, and I try to abide by that. That said, I have a short fuse when people are being arseholes.
I'm primarily using #Linux #Bluefin / #Bazzite these days, so post a bit about that.

I'm back with a new #FutureCopLAPD video, this time taking on the Apocalypse Terror Group who've taken control of Hell's Gate Prison.
I've also made the switch to recording on #Linux, and also tweaked a bit with the #Beetle core to hack wide-screen and super scaling into the game, which makes it look a little bit nicer!

Question for you all out there - if you were joining up with a fediverse server offering multiple different services (for example a Mastodon, Pixelfed and Peertube server on the same domain) - would you prefer to have a federated identity provider on the domain and use SSO for the different services, or a login for each?
Please boost for reach!

#TransportFever2 - dunno if I'll get to actually *playing* it, but I've been putting together a mod list for my next playthrough which will be German themed.
#SpaceMarine2 - this crap with the CEO is making me rethink it though...
#Satisfactory - considering another stream tonight?
#Cyberpunk2077 with the new FSR3 update has become the game I chuck on for an hour or so before bed on my #LenovoLegionGo.
#FutureCopLAPD is my current retro game.

If you own #GrandTheftAuto V on #Steam, please take a moment to let #Rockstar know that their laziness in implementing #Battleye removes your ability to play the game (if you use #Linux) or makes you unable to play with your friends (if you don't).
This is not review bombing. This is genuine criticism of failure.

I'm considering sharing more video game #screenshots/"photography". The question is, should I just post them to my #Mastodon account, or should they create a #Pixelfed for that purpose (and maybe *share* them via Mastodon)?

Is #MonDog a thing on the #Fediverse? Well, have some Monday doggy shots.
One thing you probably don't know about me is that I'm quite vocally and passionately anti-greyhound racing, something that may start to come up a little more often on my feed.
Here are two of my babies, Waffle (black) and Tim Tam (brindle)

Very proud to share that my latest #SpaceMarine2 #YouTube video was recorded, edited and rendered on my #Fedora #Linux #Bluefin install - not even a hint of windows touched this one! It was relatively pain free too!

Sort of want to delete the windows partition (or atleast shrink it down to basically nothing) but I'm anxious there are local files somewhere I've forgotten about that I'll need sometime in the future 😅

So I edited a video in #DavincResolve on #Linux, and the experience was pretty good!
On opening a project or large-ish files (like 100GB or so) it hangs for quite a while (like at least a few mins), but once that is all finished off I actually am finding scrubbing and watching at higher playback speeds actually quite a bit snappier than on Windows.
I was a bit nervous with the hangs initially but it's not that bad an issue (just open the project and refill the coffee).

- reply

Alright, everything worked out well. The mp4 from #DavinciResolve Linux is equivalent quality to the one I got from Windows, it took around about the same time to render and it was *very slightly* smaller (surprising given the audio was FLAC)
Also got it uploaded to YouTube and it plays fine, everything is synced. So it looks like it's a success!
Next I'll go through the editing process with some footage I've already recorded to test the whole workflow, then we'll record something!

2024-08-31 00:42:21 UTC

- reply

Well, #DavinciResolve on #Linux seems to be going alright. As the initial test I'm just re-rendering a project I already rendered on #Windows earlier in the week. The render time seems to be very marginally lower (not significant but I guess a good sign!)
As I mentioned before it doesn't output in #AAC but does in #FLAC (I believe this is new in 19?) so I'm expecting a higher file size.
I'm also not sure if #YouTube will accept FLAC (assuming it will and convert but you never know).

2024-08-30 11:44:39 UTC

Question is how will the whole recording/editing workflow go on Linux. The main sticking point for me had been the lack of #NVENC AV1 support in #OBS which is obviously now not a problem.
#DavinciResolve is a wildcard. I know it doesn't support mp4 and/or AAC audio in Linux but I've tried my best to adapt my workflow so that isn't an issue anymore (using .mkv with PCM), so I'm *hoping* everything will be fine, but we'll need to see how it turns out.

2024-08-30 11:36:12 UTC

On a whim today I decided to give #Linux a go again on my main rig.
Can I just say that the #Fedora #Bluefin makes the process of installing, configuring and using Linux infinitely easier if you don't want or need to do large amounts of manual configuration of your install - it just works (the #Nvidia specific image is a big plus as well).
Even got #NVENC #AV1 working on #OBS with a minimal amount of fuss (haven't tested it out yet though).
Next stop is getting my GoXLR fully working.

2024-08-29 11:57:04 UTC

Can I just say that I'm both remarkably surprised and so so glad to see a remaster of #CrocLegendOfTheGobbos in the works! Another of the games I thoroughly enjoyed playing on the #PS1 in the childhood.

Unfortunately, my efforts on getting #FutureCopLAPD working have in the end come to naught.
It *does* work more or less out of the box in #Windows11 with #nGlide, at a decent framerate, but I wasn't able to get the terrible tearing and graphic corruption issues to go away. And in fact, as I stuffed around with trying to get that stuff to go away, I broke it again 😅
I'll probably keep trying to work on getting it running from time to time...

So, after much effort I've managed to get #FutureCopLAPD working. #Wine couldn't do it, a #Win98/#WinXP in a VM of various hosts and techs couldn't do it.
But strangely, in #Windows11, turning off all the compatibility features(?) along with installing #nGlide was what I needed to do.
It's still janky. Can't access the preferences menu or pause the game without breaking it, but it *works*.

Damn it's a tricky game to get working on modern hardware. So far we've tried:
- Using wrappers on Win11 (which worked on Win10 but doesn't now).
- #Wine
- A WinXP VM in #QEMU
- A Win98 VM in #86Box
- Currently trying a Win98 VM in #DosBoxX
This works, but at the moment the game is limited to 640x480. There's some drivers that can be used to hack in higher/wide-screen resolutions for Win98, so that is my next stop.

Alright, new account, so introduction time.
I've created this account to split off my gaming-related posts out of my more serious account @npub1cv4…nzna - so here I am!
I game on PC (Windows and Linux), PS5 and Switch. I love collecting games, especially 90s-era stuff (nostalgia!)
Some of my favourite games/series are #CitiesSkylines, #TransportFever, #MetalGearSolid, #Fallout, #DragonAge, #CommandAndConquer, #Battlefield - I also enjoy giving all sorts of different games a go!
