You travel around without planning how long to stay? And how does the app know where you are? You keep location services always on, sharing your location with every other app that has the permission. Maybe you can use another app that does your permissions administration automatically so you don't have to do it yourself and save you some time.

I don't know what your interpretation is for short/mid/long term. But with gold we will see a revaluation if we get a monetary reset. It hasn't happened yet since this manipulation round started in 1971. It could happen tomorrow but it could easily take another 20 years.
So the short and midterm for gold is already continuing for more then 50 years. The elites have effectively eliminated this form of sound money through their manipulation schemes. Frractionaly reserved gold paper markets. The manipulation is possible because nobody asks for delivery of the gold after a futures contract expires. So the seller can sell the same gold more then once. And if a buyer does ask for delivery and the seller can't deliver the contracts are settled in cash (USD). The US can sell through intermediaries unlimited amounts of gold this way as they have no problem if they can't deliver, because they can settle in a currency (USD) that they can print themselves.
The Chinese do ask for delivery and this way they nuke the manipulation scheme making the monetary reset nearby.
With cryptocurrencies delivery is not a physical problem like with gold. So manipulating bitcoin or monero would be more difficult as you can easily take it in self custody. You can fractionaly reserve anything as long as the manipulator can take custody of the asset (CEX'S and ETFs).
But with perpetual futures contracts custody is not even necessary. So how would the manipulation work?
So how is a perpetual futures contact for monero settled (in which currency?) So let's say you are long and the price of monero declines you would be margin called in what currency? If it is in Fiat USD then we have the USA who can manipulate the market.
Another point is how the spot price for the perpetual futures market is calculated. The perpetual futures market is supposedly following the spot price. But my expectation is that the definition of how to calculate it is open for manipulation. I haven't researched it, but I would not be surprised if they would say something like: it is a weighted average dependent on the trading volume on spot markets and perpetual futures markets. The last making it completely open to manipulation.
I guess what I want to say is that I do not think the manipulation is something innocent, but can be really damaging, like we have seen with gold.

- reply

Thanks for the response, i'll have to dive more in to it. I think you are right that in the longterm the price will find its real value, but I think short and midterm influence is significant.
Look at gold, people knowing about the manipulation in the paper gold market know that the price is surpressed and they are saying this for decades. They bought gold and the problem is: why should you buy something which maybe is not going to appreciate in your lifetime?
In that sense monero has two advantages:
1. It is usable
2. It is traded in decentralized exchanged
Ad 2. The banning of monero from centralized exchanges is a blessing in disguise. At least the manipulation through centralized exchanges (with unfunded accounts) is not possible.
I am bullish on monero!

2026-10-22 07:16:08 UTC

- reply

Not directly related on the topic, but what is the influence of perpetual futures trading on the price (of monero)? There is no actual exchange of monero possible with a contract like that. You can't deposit or withdraw monero.
I have a feeling that the volume for this kind of trading is used to manipulate the spot price.
The volume in these trades is with supply that is non existent. So a kind of supply out of nothing (= money creation).
Was interested in your thoughts.

The police is not far right. They are just doing what they are told. And the plan could be to create unrest between the civilians themselves and not between the civilians and the elite. This is also a good 'crises' for the government to enact all the Powers they gained during covid. Let the people be busy with each other and in the mean time they will come with the solution to solve the crisis.
Welcome to the surveillance state:
- Cbdc
- digital Id
- facial recognition
The societies in Europe are weakened by making them less homogeneous so that they can't resist the transformation to the surveillance state. Mass migration makes sense now. It is useful for the powers to be to keep society divided.
But it is a win win for the authorities. They get there surveillance state and blame all the problems on the migrants (which they created themselves).
So what's wrong with an authoritarian state? Not much if the authority is acting in the interest of the people, but we know that they are owned by the parasitic international money creating elite. They will suck everyone until the host dies and move on to the next host.

Agree that it is stupid to disconnect a computer from the internet to generate keys. Security wise it would make no difference if the computer was offline and connected later on.
But if you create it offline, sign offline and stay offline then the attack surface is much smaller. I believe that every online device is insecure (nothing to do with keeping it clean). Wether you are interesting enough for three letter agencies or other hackers is a whole other question. I think you are saying: the risk of getting hacked is so enormous small that it is not worth the effort. You could even say that adding complexity with offline setups leads to an increased loss of funds because users mess up ( not even talking about the fraud with hardware wallets).

Well then you didn't understand what I wrote. You look at it from a personal perspective. But you should look at it from a system wide view. Why is it that the banks hold the power in a fiat world. Because they have custody over the money and because of that they can create money out of nothing making everyone a debt slave to the system. Even if you do not have personal debts. Your government makes them for you. Becoming a debt slave through taxation.
So you want to give this opportunity in bitcoin also to them by not holding your own money. Well you keep your SATs in the exchanges ( the new banks of the future) and bitcoin becomes like gold and Fiat money. Used by the powers to be against you.

Huh? I don't advise people to use a hardware wallet, let alone a ledger device. I am just saying that your reasoning is not the most secure and it seems insincere as you talk about a paper wallet like you don't need a computer to generate one. So my advise is the same as yours. Make use of a paper wallet, but generate it with an offline machine, never to be connected to the internet again. If your paper wallet is generated with an online machine it is not actually offline is it? Nothing extreme about it, just common sense.

2026-10-17 12:45:19 UTC

How do you create a paper wallet without software? You do it on an offline electronic device. You are back to square one. Which offline device are you going to use? An old smart phone/ an old laptop/desktop or a hardware wallet? Ideally you use a device that has no internet connection ability. So a desktop without a wificard would be my choise and not use it for something else.
I hope you do not advice people to create their paper wallet on an online device or even worse on a website!

Well you have to weigh the risks. A typo versus the risk of three (instead of two) compromised devices/software needed to steel your assets.
If you make a setup like this (2-of-3, or 3-of-3). I suppose you test it before you use it. Like delete everything and recover it from backup seeds. So that way you know you don't have a typo.
Did you have a typo in your passphrase? You could still try. It shouldn't be that difficult to recover.

What would be the advantage of bitcoin if we go (back) to a fractional reserve standard? Nothing would have been changed for the better. Fractional reserve banking is immoral. Bitcoin becoming like the paper gold market does not solve anything.
Well maybe one thing: the audit of the reserves in bitcoin is easy and with gold less easy. So with bitcoin you will know how much money they would have been creating (how hard you will be fucked), thereby being able to calculate the risks and giving a signal how much interest you should be asking at this specific bank. In time the shenanigans will lobby the government that audits are not necessary and a thread to the stability of the financial system etc etc.
I guess that all comes back to the education of the people:
- don't use systems that do fractional reserve banking
- don't do interest.

Although i think the bureaucracy has its own dynamic and I agree with what you say. I think you are talking about something else then i do. I assume that there is a power above state level which controls the state itself. So it doesn't matter who actually comes to power in politics as long as the elected officials don't change/challenge the money creation system.
Because if they would try, they will be dealt with by the many tools they have.
Is my assumption correct? Yes it is actually a fact that the creation of money is a private matter. It is created by commercial and central banks. And the central bank of the united States (the federal reserve) is a private corporation, with private shareholders.
That's why the USA has a national debt. If it would create its own money there would be no national debt.
So who is the real boss? The hand that gives or the hand that takes? The hand that gives is stronger because the hand that takes is a debt slave.

Where is the fiat money creation in this picture? It says in the middle of the picture (level 1) Banks & Fed receive new money first. No, NO! This is not true.
These words hide the biggest scam on earth. They don't RECEIVE they GIVE. They give money they create out of nothing when they make a loan to somebody (expanding the money supply). Then they collect the interest and earn FREE money, without performing labour. This is parasitic behavior.
The loan takers (citizens, companies governments) receive the new money and have a net advantage versus the fiat savers in society. The government is part of the sceme. The government could create its own money , without issuing debt and as a consequence no national debt. But they don't. The moment the government decided to play along or was tricked or forced to accept the sceme the free citizens of a country become not taxpayers for their own benefit but become tax paying livestock to pay of the national debt including interest. So the government becomes the collection mechanism for the money creators.
Always keep this in the back, I mean in the front of your mind when you look at these kind of pictures.

I think you misunderstood me. The system is fiat money creation and usury. These are great sins in all the major religions (like Judaism, christianity, islam). So this system has totaly caputred the world. Can you name a country that is not using fiat and/or does not have a central bank?
What i am trying to say is, the system is totaly immoral. That’s why it doesn't matter who runs it.
I understand that you want to work at a company whos boss is aligned with your values. But what i am saying is the company is in the business of totaly immoral things. What does it matter when the boss says he is a christian while the company is in the business of child pornography (or whatever immoral things you can imagine). You are not going to say: I want to work at this company but wished the boss would be a christian rather then a muslim. No! whether the boss is a jew or a muslim or a woman or a man or whatever, you want this company to be shut down and its employees in prison.
“what system i want to replace it with?” Thats simple and not new. We have to recapture the monetary system and base it on sound money, like gold or bitcoin or whatever money that meets the criteria of sound money.
Is this achievable? Yes, as most part of human history was on a sound money standard. And until we reach this we need to educate ourselves and resist the present fiat money system. How?
Don’t do usury. Don’t make loans or take loans with interest. Don’t use fiat money. Use gold or bitcoin. If you have to use fiat, then use cash instead of bank account money. Don’t feed the beast. Keep your wealth outside the banking system.
Be a good son, be a good father, be a good husband and be a good neighbour.
If only a few would do this the system will crumble in time.

Killing for resources is more animal like and killing over expression is more human like. You like the animals more than the humans? I think both are disgusting!
The resources thing is systematic. Why are you on nostr? Why are you in bitcoin? You don't know how the system works? The Roman empire conquered land and extracted resources from the new provinces. Then the Europeans conquered (overseas)land and extracted resources from the colonies. Then came the American empire and perfected the system.
They conquered land. Didn't call it provinces or colonies. The American empire said: we liberated you: You can be your own land have your own Parliament, but we will place some US military bases. Then the American empire started extracting resources from the vassal states. How does the american empire accomplish this? The empire controls the monetary system of the world. Killed the gold standard. Introduced unsound money, the fiat dollar. Which is the reserve currency of the world to do international trade. The dollar is the extraction mechanism! Every other country in the world needs to print money equal to its national production except the american empire. The american empire needs to print the dollars equal to its national production and above that needs to print all the dollars for international trade.
So how do these extra dollars enter the global economy? The american state runs deficits and the american empire prints them giving the possibility to import stuff from all over the world (for free). The american state has to have a negative trade balance to export dollars and import free goods from the rest of the world, thereby extracting resources from not only the vassal states but even from countries that do not have US military bases (like Russia and China). This is the most sophisticated extraction mechanism ever developed. This gives the American empire enormous wealth by usury on the deficit of the american state and gives ordinary Americans a relative high living standard.
This extraction mechanism must prevail by protecting the american reserve currency status by all means. Propaganda, clandestine operations and military force.
Countries that want to be free and escape the extraction mechanism by choosing not to use the dollar for international trade are dealt with. Want examples? Muaamer khadafi wanted to introduce the African gold dinar ->dead. Country destroyed. Saddam Hussein wanting to sell oil in euros. No no, Saddam bad boy, Saddam must die. County destroyed.
Ohh now we have brics countries who want an alternative trade currency. No no can't happen. First we destroy Russia then we destroy China. Why do you think these proxy wars happen in Ukraine and iran. Why are Christians fighting each other in Ukraine? Why are god fearing people fighting each other in Iran? Because the american empire controls the foreign policy of the american state and thereby the use of the american military. You think the war in Iran is about Israel. The Israelis themselves think they are in control in the US, but even they are used by the american empire.
Hope this gives you some insights.

Sorry I haven't seen the episode. But it is quite easy for regulators to close bitcoin as an exit for the following reasons:
1. Censoring bitcoin transactions through compliant miningpools.
2. Taxing bitcoin out of existence.
Ad 1. is a well known problem I think. So decentralized template building in miningpools is a great development.
Ad 2. No easy solution for this one. Even if you build a total parallel circular bitcoin economy, how are you going to prevent the taxman from knocking on your door because you bought a cup of coffee with bitcoin? Taxman says: I want x % of tax on that payment. How high does the taxman needs to set x for you to stop using bitcoin (10%, 50% or maybe 95%)?
So the effects of fiat money creation (loss of purchasing power) can be transferred through taxes on to bitcoin by introducing for example capital gains tax. Bitcoin becomes more valuable in dollar terms because of fiat money printing. You thought I am protected,, because I have scarce bitcoins. Then you make a payment and you realize a profit (in dollar terms) and need to pay capital gains tax on your purchase or even worse you do not make a payment and still pay capital gains tax on unrealized gains. Don't believe me? Look at the developments in the Netherlands and the introduction of capital gains tax on unrealized gains.
Unless taxman doesn't know you made a payment or have bitcoin at all. For that you need to have real fungibility in bitcoin. Which bitcoin doesn't have. So you need to hide something on a transparent ledger which only the most technical people within the bitcoin community can achieve with great technical skills, knowledge and discipline. No discipline but great technological skills and knowledge the taxman is still knocking on your door.

Which changes transform free citizens into 'tax-generating live stock'?
Step1 abolish sound money
Step 2 introduce fiat money
Step 3 give the power to print fiat money to the private sector.
The government could print its own money, (which is bad enough compared to a sound money system) but they don't! It is even worse they borrow money and let the printing being done by the private sector. Consequence of not printing your own money is that the government builds up a national debt, which has to be paid back with interest.
A government that refuses to print its own money has been transformed into the 'tax' collecting strong arm of the money printing private sector. Turning their citizens into 'live stock' to pay of the national debt.

What you forget to mention is the fact that bitcoin, being a transparent ledger, makes its usability as a medium of exchange vulnerable. Governments treat it as an asset that is taxable. Spending it triggers capital gains tax. Taxes also apply to monero, but at least with monero and other privacy coins you have a bigger chance at starting a circular/parallel economy.

So how does it compare security wise to bitcoin? I thought there was a mining attack on monero a few months ago. And what about the on-chain transaction throughput?. Bitcoin can't even sustain a small village economy. How is monero doing in this regard?

You can use heliboard. It works just fine.

Why not use both? Seems like you guys are arguing for the same thing. How to do privacy on bitcoin (seems like a lot of work) and how to do privacy on monero (not a lot of work).

It is not speculation. It already happens as some of the miningpools show compliance to the american government. Look at https://mempool.space/nl/mining you can see that around 75% of the blocks are mined by 5 miningpools. In those pools are thousands of miners worldwide, but only 5 miningpool coordinators who built the blocks with transactions. So the CIA has to visit 5 people to censor bitcoin. That is not a lot of work for them, can be done in one day. Already one or two of these miningpools signalled compliance to the american government (I think it is foundry). Maybe the CIA told the others not to signal it publicly. Anyway you probably have still 25% of the miners/pools who are willing to process blacklisted addresses. But then you have to wait 40 minutes instead of 10 minutes. The real shit hits the fan when the regulators force the compliant miningpools not to built on blocks that did proces blacklisted addresses. Your confirmed transaction is still blocked and erased from the mainchain. But I suppose this scenario will only happen if bitcoin is so mainstream and entangled with the real economy that it will incure Hugh cost for society to switch to another system.

There is a link in the article how to do it by hand. Didn't you see it? https://armantheparman.com/sha256/

@kylehuber. No I mean it is overrated. What I am saying is that bitcoin might be not so censorship resistant. In other words transactions could be blocked by central powers like mining pool coordinators. Who block transactions from being processed in the blocks that their pools mine, because they follow adreslists that are blacklisted by the american government. So if you are on the blacklist your bitcoin payments will not work.

Ofcourse the amount of labor is important, but the price of a good is determined by the subjective valuation of individuals. The value is not determined by the amount of labor put in it. And that is what the labor theory of value states. I have put so many hours in this product so it must have value. It doesn't work like that. But central planners decide to produce goods with lots of labor and resources and think it has value. It leads to huge misallocation of resources and labor, because in communism you don't have the feedback loop of subjective valuation through the pricing mechanism they don't know what to produce in which amounts. You can not do economic calculations without prices.

Overrated: censorship resistance.
Miner centralization and regulatory capture might already be well established. But maybe the regulators are keeping there powder dry for the really pivotal moments in the future, so everything seems OK for now.

In our country we use the 24 hour clock. I like it but it is not 100% certain. If somebody tells me let's meet at 9 o'clock I still wonder are we going to meet at 9 in the morning or at 21 hours? The system with pm and am is exact and there is no confusion about when to meet.

The transparency of bitcoin transactions makes it non-privat as most people buy bitcoin on KYC exchanges. So a coffee payed with bitcoin becomes a taxable event (capital gains tax). It is essential that not only the behavior of people change, but that private payments are developed for bitcoin for it to become a unit of account. Also the fungibility would improve, preventing bitcoins on a governments blacklist to be censored.

I have this question too. But from the perspective of the dice itself it will tend to be biased to on side of it self. So either it is biased towards the 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6. So those are six bias options. I guess, I am not an expert, that this will reduce your entropy significantly. Let's say you use only one dice that tends towards the side with the number 5 more then the other sides and you throw it 256 times. I think you will throw significantly less combinations, meaning this bias will lead to guessable seeds.
I don't know what will happen to your entropy if you would use 256 different dices. Does 256 biased dices lower your entropy? Probably not if they do not have the exact same bias. But maybe an expert can answer this question.

He could not have fixed it for seeds already created. But to let people continue create weak seeds is just pure evil. Are you saying he could not have upgraded the firmware without exposing the 'bug'. I think he could have done it 'silently'. Or he could have launched a new product line with new code and stop selling the corrupt devices. But he didn't. So this looks intentional.

When enough people know how the system works, we can make a change. Fix the money, fix the world. It is simple. Op out of the fiat system. Choose/use sound money (gold/bitcoin). No need to fight. Their system and power will crumble.

Isn't this the same problem as coinkite, like "trust the code". Shouldn't the advice be to always generate your own entropy. Or can we trust the code because electrum is open source?
